2 Page 2 POND/WATER FEATURE OF THE MONTH BY Ron Kramer ELECTIONS Article IV, Section 3 of the Bi- Laws states: Election of Officers and appointment of Directors and Chairpersons. The elected officers of this Society shall consist of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasure. The president shall appoint the 6 directors and chairpersons, Officers shall be elected by a 2/3 vote of members in good standing present at the OCTOBER MONTHLY MEET- ING. Should a vacancy occur in any officer position, the President shall appoint an interim replacement for that office. Only members of the Executive Board may be elected to the President position. The Senior Director must have held an Officers position or Directors position prior to his appointment as Senior director. Their term will begin in November of the same year. Only one member of a dual membership may hold an officers position. Section 4 Qualification for the elected officers of this Society: Individual hobbyist seeking nominations for the offices of this Society must be a member in good standing and have displayed with his/her past actions to have a sincere interest in supporting the well being and growth of the Society. If elected, they must be able to attend meetings and events, and actively participate in board decisionmaking and society events. Irregular attendance by a board member will be subject to review by the Executive Board. Nominees for the officers are being accepted for voting: President Vice President Secretary Treasure Ladies and Gentlemen, don t be shy, open yourself up to be nominated for an office. PKPS

6 Page 6 TID/BITS OF INFORMATION Research By Ron Kramer PKPS Has filter media for your filtration systems, the cost is: $15.00 for a 12 x 60 sheet. This is a very good deal. - The Catfish has over 27,000 taste buds, (I wonder how they did that study?) - The Pond Pump Your pond pump is a considerable investment that needs protection. Installing a pre-filter is an inexpensive way to protect your pumps, help pumps run more efficiently, and extend pump life. Pre-filters prevent debris like leaves, stones, muck, and sticks from damaging your submersible pump. A pump without a pre-filter can experience significant reduction in water flow as well as undue stress on the pump impeller. Pre-filters also help ensure the safety of fish, amphibians, and other small critters by preventing them from being sucked into the pump. Pump pre-filters do work!!!! KEEP UPKEEP SIMPLE! SCHEDULE set aside a specific period of time devoted to maintenance. Create a special pond calendar and mark when you need to replace chemical and mechanical media. Other scheduled maintenance tasks can include checking filter, pump, and UV clarifier operation, testing water parameters, trimming and fertilizing your pond plants as well as renewing mosquito control products. ORGANIZE Keep an inventory of current pond maintenance products. Basic pond products to have on hand include nets, gloves, pruning tools, water conditioners, fertilizer for plants, algae control products, and filter media. Use this list to create a wish list/ things to get list. Include products you need as well as new timesaving products you wish you had last year. Consider different size of nets, chest waders or even stressful for you and is healthier for your pond inhabitants. For example, accumulated debris is cumbersome and messy to remove. However, by removing debris as it makes its way into your pond, you keep maintenance simple and help maintain optimum filter performance and water quality. REMEMBER Simple is efficient. When you keep pond care easy, you have a healthier pond and more time to enjoy it.
