2 Welcome to the Great Falls Public Schools Board of Trustees meeting! If this is your first meeting If this is your first time attending a meeting, let us extend our special welcome! These meetings are designed to give everyone the opportunity to participate in seeing how the Great Falls trustees facilitate school business. What is the purpose of these meetings? The meetings of the Great Falls Public Schools Board of Trustees are always open to the public. These meetings are held to officially conduct the business of the school district, as governed by Montana law. Trustees are responsible for key decisions, some of which include hiring of employees, reviewing negotiated agreements, approving new curriculum or changes to existing curricula, facility usage requests, and paying of monthly expenses. How can I address the trustees? If you d like to address the trustees on any matter, please fill out a Request to Speak card available from the Clerk of the Board at each meeting. Return this card to the Clerk of the Board or the Board Chairperson. This will allow the Chairperson to recognize you at the appropriate time in the meeting and to guarantee you the opportunity to address the board. There are federal and state laws that must be followed when addressing the board to protect the privacy of individuals and to conduct business in an orderly manner. CABINET MEMBER: Brian Patrick TOPIC Resolution to Sell, Recycle or Dispose of Obsolete or Unsuitable District Property BACKGROUND Montana Codes Annotated, (MCA), requires that the disposal of public property be approved by the Board of Trustees. DISCUSSION The items on the attached list have been identified by the District to be broken, obsolete, or unusable. As provided in MCA , the trustees must declare the items for disposal. The District will advertise and sell the major items by utilizing a silent or sealed bid process which will be posted and outlined on the school district website. Items will also be sold via a garage sale at the District Book Give Away, which will be held on June 21 & 22, 2017 at Longfellow Elementary. Items that do not sell will be recycled or disposed of in an appropriate manner. FISCAL IMPLICATIONS The advertising required by law will cost the district approximately $ RECOMMENDATION The District Board is requested to approve the resolution to declare the attached list of miscellaneous equipment as surplus property to be disposed of by way of sale, recycling or other means. 9 Resolution The Trustees of the Great Falls School District 1 & A hereby designate the following property of the district undesirable, unsuitable or obsolete for school purposes. Great Falls School District 1 & A resolves to sell, recycle or otherwise dispose of all property as listed on the School District website under surplus property. The subject property is abandoned, obsolete, undesirable or unsuitable for school purposes because it no longer meets the needs of the district. As provided in , MCA, the trustees of the Great Falls School District 1 & A hereby resolve to dispose of the property identified above because it is or is about to become abandoned, obsolete, undesirable, or unsuitable for school purposes of the Great Falls School District 1 & A. The method of disposal shall be by way of recycle, sale or discard. The trustees of the Great Falls School District 1 & A further resolve that notice of the resolution shall be published on the 7 th day of June 2017, in the Great Falls Tribune. This resolution shall become effective 14 days after publication of the notice identified in the immediately preceding paragraph, unless appealed to the district court by a taxpayer in compliance with and as provided in , MCA. A. CABINET MEMBER: Tom Moore TOPIC Report on the Building Design for the CM Russell High School Multipurpose Athletic Building, STEM Addition, and Pride Field and Track Renovations BACKGROUND The planning team (staff, students, alumni and neighbors) at CM Russell High School has been busy working the past few weeks with the CTA architectural firm to envision the design for a Science/Technology/Engineering/Math (STEM) addition to the existing vocational building, a new multipurpose athletic facility, and the renovation of Pride Field and practice track. DISCUSSION The CMR design team and CTA Architects will provide an overview of the process and share the design features of each facet of the proposed building projects on the CMR campus. Key design Elements: An attractive 24,000 sq. ft. multipurpose athletic facility to include a gymnasium with basketball/volleyball courts and bleacher seating for approximately 400 spectators. Insulated steel panel construction, wood floor and open ceilings A 3500 sq. ft. fitness center on the main floor with glass view overlooking Pride Field A 4800 sq. ft. wrestling room on the second floor, also overlooking Pride Field An enclosed connector between the current fieldhouse and the new addition via a skywalk on the second floor of the multipurpose center A 5600 sq. ft. STEM classroom complex addition to north end of the existing vocational building. This space will be flexible for student projects, investigations and demonstrations of student learning Improvements to the drainage, soil amendments and grass turf to the Jack Johnson Pride Field Renovation and upgrade of the existing track to provide a safe and adequate practice surface for athletes and patrons who use this facility Next Steps: June 12- City of Great Falls Design and Review Board presentation. Weekly meetings with the CTA design team, James Talcott Construction and GFPS to communicate, plan, and implement the construction of these projects at CMR High School. 9
