3 FOL-IUD: AN INTRODUCTION The ICFAI University, Dehradun, Uttarakhand was established under the ICFAI University Act, 2003 (Act No. 16 of 2003) passed by the Uttaranchal Legislative Assembly and assented to by the Governor on July 08, The Faculty of Law (FOL) (formerly known as ICFAI Law School) is one of the constituent bodies of ICFAI University, Dehradun. The FOL s law program is duly recognized by the Bar Council of India. The Faculty of Law is committed to shape a new cadre of legal professionals through a comprehensive and contemporary body of integrated knowledge of law and management and rigorous education and research programs. The Faculty of Law has the social responsibility of continuing to be a centre of Excellence in the field of legal education, a position which it came to occupy within the short span of time. Globalization has thrown up new challenges and the professional legal education has to cater to the growing demands for skilled legal professionals who can effectively function in the emerging legal order. Faculty of Law is ranked 22 nd among top 25 law colleges of India by India Today Neilsen Survey, 2014 and ranked 3 rd among top 20 private law colleges of India by Flair Honours.

4 ABOUT THE NATIONAL LEGAL ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION(NLEWC)-2015 We are pleased to announce the National Legal Essay Writing Competition, The competition is an excellent opportunity for Law students to express their viewpoints on various contemporary issues. The theme is broad in nature; hence, the participants may take up any Topic/Trend/Issue/Development covered under the purview of the Theme. 5 ELIGIBILITY: All participants pursuing LL.B., either from the 3 year course or from the 5 year course and LL.M. in any recognised University/College by the Bar Council of India. Co-authorship is allowed up to one. GUIDELINES & RULES: The Essay must be written in English Only one essay per participant will be submitted. Multiple or incomplete submissions will lead to immediate disqualification. The essay shall not be plagiarized. Only the original essays will be considered for the competition. No part of it should have been published earlier nor should it be under consideration for publication or a contest elsewhere. Any form of plagiarism will result in immediate disqualification of the essay. The participants will submit a separate undertaking with regard to originality of work. Copyright of the Essays shall rest with the organizers. Organizers hold the right to republish the essays if required. Identification mark (name or any mark which identifies the author) must not be found in any part of essay. The Deadline for the submission is 25 th January, The Participants must submit their essayvia only with copyright declaration form. The essay should be in the following format: Format: Font Type: Times New Roman Font Size: 12 Line spacing: 1.5 Footnote size: 10

6 SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: The submission shall consist of an Abstract, Essay and Bibliography. An abstract should not be more than 300 words including title and keywords. The length of the essay should be between 3,000 to 5,000 words. Footnotes must conform to the authoritative standard rules of legal citation and must include a description of each authority adequate enough to allow a reasonable reader to identify and locate the authority in a publication of general circulation. Essay in MS Word format with the subject FOL IUD- NLEWC Cover page containing Name, Nationality, Address, id, Contact number and name of the College/University along with address and class of the Participant. In case of co-authorship, the covering letter should include details of both the authors. Submissions must be mailed to essay.foliud@gmail.com, there is no requirement of hard copy submission. The decision of the judges will be final. PRIZES: WINNER: A cash prize of INR 5,100 1 ST Runner-up: A cash prize of INR 3,100 2 ND Runner-up: A cash prize of INR 2,100 Consolation prizes (5no s): A cash prize of INR 500 A certificate of appreciation will be awarded to all the participants. Selected essays may be considered for publication in proceeding bearing ISBN NO.
