5 Flexible Flue Liners INTRODUCTION Introduction Flue Liners can only be installed completely enclosed inside a masonry chimney. A non-masonry enclosure such as a timber frame with plasterboard is not acceptable. The type of flue liner used depends on the appliance and the fuel used to burn in the appliance. Triplelock gas and oil flue liner is suitable for gas and kerosene (28 second) oil appliances. It is manufactured from a single skin of 316L grade stainless steel. Quattro-SS comes in two grades of stainless steel: 316L grade stainless steel, which is suitable for wood burning, solid fuel can be used up to 20% of overall use. (Applicable for the lifetime of the appliance) 904L grade stainless steel, which is suitable for smokeless fuels and has a lifetime warranty. (Applicable for the lifetime of the appliance) Maintenance Provision should be made for inspecting and cleaning the liner especially for multi-fuel liners on solid fuel applications. The liner should be swept at least once a year by a qualified chimney sweep. Chemical chimney cleaners which contain chlorine, fluorine or metal scarifying devices cannot be used under any circumstances and will invalidate your warranty. Mechanical cleaning with a stiff nylon brush and rods is the only method recoended. Insulation Insulation or back-filling should be done on tall, large or exposed chimneys as a matter of course. On the installations, whilst not essential, an insulated flue should ensure maximum performance and minimise condensation in the flue lining. To insulate the chimney either use a loose fill granular insulating material such as Vermiculite or Leca, or use Rockwool insulating tubes that can be secured around the flue liner during installation. Life Expectancy Under normal operating conditions and providing that the flue liner has be installed and sized correctly, a flexible flue liner should last the lifetime of the appliance. Fuels Only fuels which are HETAS approved or recoended by the appliance manufacturer can be used. Household refuse or rubbish must not be burned. Wood must be well seasoned for at least a year and must not contain more than 20% moisture to avoid creosote deposits building up which can cause chimney fires. If the appliance is slumbered overnight or for long periods, then it is essential to run the appliance at a high fire for a minimum of 30 minutes per day. Failure to meet this requirement may result in premature liner failure and in these circumstances the warranty is invalid. 17 Chimney Flue INTRODUCTION Regulations In addition with the manufacturer s installation instructions all flues installed in England and Wales must be in compliance with Document J of the Building Regulations. In Scotland part F is the relevant section of the Scottish Building Regulations. Design & Layout Building Regulations recoend a flue height of at least 4½ metres and that the chimney should be as straight as feasible. This height, though, will depend on various variables, number of direction changes in the flue, building height, type of appliance etc. If a purely vertical chimney run is impossible, the regulations state that the only horizontal section permitted is a maximum of 150 (6inches) to connect the back of the appliance to the chimney. Updated Building Regulation 2014 When a horizontal section of more 150 is required to connect to a solid fuel appliance then the following criteria must be met: a. the maximum length of horizontal connecting pipe does not exceed 450. b. only a DEFRA exempt appliance or an appliance limited to burning authorised smokeless fuel is installed. c. a flue calculation in accordance to BS EN has indicated safe operation of the configuration. d. the appliance manufacturer agrees in writing with the configuration. e. the chimney manufacturer agrees in writing with the configuration. f. the correct distance to combustible materials from the connecting flue and the appliance are maintained. g. the total length of the connecting pipes is not more than They also recoend that there is at least 600 vertical flue pipe from the appliance before any direction change of the flue. Elsewhere in the run there should be no angle exceeding 45º degrees from the vertical and then the run between the bends should not be more than 20% of the total chimney height and no more than two offsets can be in any one chimney. If there are two offsets then cleaning access must be provided. If passing through a ceiling or floor there must be no joints in the flue pipe while it is passing though and if the floor/ceiling which can catch fire, there must be an air gap between the flue pipe and the ceiling/floor as stated by the manufacturer of the flue - the (G) number in the designation. North Sales: South Sales: above 250ºC then ventilated fire stops should be used for any multi-fuel installations, but for gas and oil solid or standard fire stops can be used. Twin wall flue systems should protrude below the first ceiling by a distance of approximately three times the diameter of the flue pipe. Any flue that passes through an outside wall must use a wall sleeve. Rooms where the appliance is rated over 5kW will need air vents to supply correct air flow so that both the flue and the appliance work correctly. All these necessary regulations and requirements are laid out in the Building Regulations Document J. Flue Pipe Diameter The diameter of the flue pipes for the chimney system will be stated by the appliance manufacturer and should not be smaller than the appliance outlet. Wood burning or multi-fuel appliances less than 30kW must have flue with an internal diameter of at least 150 (6 inch). For DEFRA approved appliances burning smokeless fuels 125 (5 inch) flue pipe can be installed. Supports In general, joist and wall supports are needed to hold and support the load and vertical weight of the chimney systems whereas walls bands, roof and rafter supports stop the flue from moving laterally. To make sure that the flue system is secure, wall bands should be every 2½m and at offsets. For long free standing flues that are above the roof line and extend over this, the use of guy wires, or reinforced structural locking bands which must be used at every joint above the roof line, can be used to secure the flue pipe. Maintenance Your flue should be easy to access for cleaning and inspection - especially for solid-fuel appliances. Current recoendations state that solid fuel appliances are swept and maintained at least annually. Carbon Monoxide According to Document J (October 2010), where a new or replacement solid fuel appliance is installed, a carbon monoxide alarm should be fitted in the same room as the appliance. The alarm should comply with BS EN 50291:2001 and be powered by a battery designed to operate for 7 years. The alarm should be located (1) on the ceiling at least 300 from any wall or, if located on a wall, as high as possible (above doors and windows) but not within 150 of the ceiling, and (2) between 1m and 3m horizontally from the appliance. Min. 2.3m horizontally from the nearest point on the roof and (1) at least 1m above the highest point of the flue outlet, or (b) at least as high as the ridge. 65 Connecting Pipe INTRODUCTION Introduction EURO-VIT, MI-VIT, 1 Stainless Steel are used as connecting flue pipes from the appliance to the chimney and must only be used in the same room as the appliance is installed. Clay pot adaptors allow an appliance to be connected directly to a ceramic or clay liner, the liner must be smoke tested to make sure it is in good condition, and must be installed within a masonry chimney. Installation The maximum installed length of EURO-VIT and MI-VIT is 1.8 metres. 1 Stainless Steel may also be used to reline existing masonry chimneys. spigot end facing down (into the socket of the pipe below). This will allow our Trade Customers to specify a discount from the list price of our products for his customers. On the website, the Reseller can then enter a quotation for their customer, including delivery and invoice address details, which will show his selling prices for that customer. Mi-Flues Tracking Tracking is a new feature on the Mi-Flues website for It is designed to help customers track their orders after purchase using either the delivery postcode for the product(s), confirmation order number received after checkout or the transaction reference number. This quotation can then be printed or ed direct to the customer. These quotations can be called back up at a later date and then added to the Reseller s Shopping Basket but this time using the prices the Reseller has agreed with Mi-Flues - i.e. the Reseller cost prices! A click of a button and the order instantly appears in their website basket and once confirmed is sent directly to Mi- Flues where it can be despatched to the Reseller or direct to their customer. No more looking up a price lists, calculating discounts, adding margins and then wondering just how much profit you can make on a sale. Log into your secure trade account and you will see what you are making for each sale on a item by item basis! Once you have entered your chosen tracking method a search results page will appear showing your order (or most recent orders if using a delivery postcode). Each result will show all the information you need to track your order including the courier used, order number, tracking number and link to the courier s website where an update or your order can be found. 148 Mi-Flues TRADING TERM AND CONDITIONS CONDITIONS OF TRADING 1. Definitions: The Company shall mean Mi-Flues Ltd and Taymin Ltd and any trading name under those companies. The Buyer means any persons or body corporate who accept a quotation of the Seller. Goods shall mean all the Products, Articles, Material and Components supplied or otherwise dealt in the Company. 2. Acceptance: (a) All orders are subject to these Terms and Conditions unless otherwise agreed by a director of the Company in writing. No terms or conditions forwarded by the Buyer, nor verbal representations, warranties guarantees or other statements made by or on behalf of the Company, shall be binding on the Company unless confirmed by a director of the Company in writing. (b) Notwithstanding acceptance of the Buyer s order the Company can give no warranty or undertaking that the Goods are available and reserves the right to cancel the order if it should be unable to effect the order within a reasonable period of time for any reason beyond Its control and in such a case the Company shall not be liable to compensate the Buyer. 3. Quotations & Published Prices: (a) Any quotation or published price is subject to alteration or withdrawal without prior notice as a result of fluctuations in exchange rates or labour, materials, transport or other costs, beyond the control of the Company, so that the Company has the right to adjust its prices to those prevailing at the time of dispatch. 4. Cancellation / Variations and Returns: (I) Cancellation of an order cannot be accepted or goods returned for credit unless previously agreed to in writing by the Seller and in the case of goods returned for credit, proof of the original purchase is provided in the form of a delivery note or invoice. (ii) No variation of any order shall be binding upon the Seller unless the same shall be agreed in writing. (iii) In the event that the Seller agrees in writing to accept the return of stock items, a charge of 20% of invoice price will be made, such sum representing a reasonable preestimate of the Seller s average costs of collection and administration. Stock items means items normally held in stock by the Seller. (iv) Items specially ordered or manufactured or not normally held by the Seller as stock and will not be accepted for return and credit. (v) Any goods accepted by the Seller for credit must be returned in re-saleable condition. Delivery: (a) Except when order value is less than agreed delivery charge, the Goods will be delivered free of charge to the delivery address given with the Buyer s order and unless there shall be any specific instructions as to whom the consignment should be delivered and whose signature shall be given by way of acknowledgement of receipt of the Goods then the Company shall obliged only to accept the signature of an apparently authorised person. (b) The Company cannot permit Goods to be left at any delivery address otherwise than in exchange for a signed receipt nor can such receipt be qualified in any way whatsoever other than to identify a missing item or by describing the damage to any item alleged to be found damaged on delivery, (c) The Company shall only be obliged to deliver the Goods to the destination given with the order unless such destination is changed by notification in writing and if on delivery an apparently authorised person shall on behalf of the Buyer provide to the Company s driver a written request to deliver the Goods to an alternative address then the driver may at his discretion honour such a request and this shall be entirely at the Buyer s risk and the Company shall not be responsible for any losses thereby occasioned. (d) The Company reserves the right to levy an additional charge in respect of delivery where it agrees to a change in the address for delivery of the Goods in the event that the value of the order for such Goods is below a minimum order value as determined by the Company from time to time and notified to the Buyer verbally or in writing. (e) Times and dates quoted for dispatch or completion represent the Company s best estimates only and are given in good faith, time not being of the essence. In the event of the Buyer failing to take delivery at the appointed time and/or place, the Company shall be entitled to charge for all expenses which may be incurred by reason of such failure. The Company shall have no liability to the Buyer for any late delivery or short delivery. 6. Damage or Loss in Transit: (a) Unless delivery is made by the Company s own transport or personnel, damage or loss in transit will be the responsibility of the carrier, Carrier receipts should be signed unexamined, if so applicable and any Goods broken or damaged in transit should be notified to the 148 carrier and the company within three days of receipt. Goods should be returned to the Company in the original packing within seven days of clearance by the carrier s inspectors otherwise no claim will be entertained. (b) Any alleged shortages or defects must also be notified to the Company in writing within three days of receipt of Goods. Should Goods not be delivered within seven working days of date of receipt of invoice for the Goods, iediate notice in writing must be given to the carrier and the Company. In certain circumstances, the Company may agree to the return of Goods for credit but any agreement to accept such returns will always be subject to such Goods being deemed by the Company upon inspection at the Company s premises, to be in a re-saleable condition. In the event of this not being the case, such Goods will be returned to the original delivery address and no credit will be issued. 7. Transfer of Risk and Passage of Title: (a) Subject to 5(a) but notwithstanding any other provisions hereof, risk in the Goods shall pass to the Buyer at the moment the Goods leave the Company s premises. (b) Notwithstanding the provisions of sub clause (a) hereof, all property legal and equitable in the Goods or in the case of contracts for the sale or supply of Goods to a Buyer in Scotland, all property title and ownership in the Goods, shall remain in the Company and shall not pass to the Buyer unless and until the moment of payment of the due price of the Goods together with any interest which may have accrued there on pursuant to Clause 8. To assist the Company in asserting its property rights hereby retained, the Buyer shall (at the Buyer s expense) so store keep and record the Goods as to facilitate their recognition and identification and shall permit the Company to enter the Buyer s premises and re-take such retained Goods. (c) If the Buyer (I) fails to make any payment to the Company when due, or (ii) proposes to compound with its creditors, applies for an interim order under the Insolvency 1986 or has a bankruptcy petition presented against it or (iii) being a company, enters into voluntary or compulsory liquidation, has a receiver, an administrator or administrative receiver appointed over all or any of its assets or takes or suffers similar action, or if the Company has reasonable cause to believe that any of these events is likely to occur then the Company shall have the right, without prejudice to any other remedies: - To enter without prior notice, any premises of the Buyer where Goods owned by the Company may be and to repossess and dispose of any Goods owned by it so as to discharge any sums owed to it by the Buyer under this or any other contract; - To require the Buyer not to resell or part with possession of any Goods owned by the Company until the Buyer has paid in full all sums due to the Company under this or any other contract; - To withhold delivery of any undelivered Goods and stop any Goods in transit. (d) The purpose of each contract of sale to which these Terms and Conditions apply is to provide the Buyer with stock for the Buyer s own business as seller of such stock and not to alter them so that they become or are absorbed into some new thing. The Buyer shall deal with the Goods only and strictly in a manner consistent with this purpose. 8. Warranties & Guarantees: (a) The Company warrants that the Goods are a reasonable quality and will be delivered in a reasonable condition. Any complaint relating to the quality or condition or description of the Goods should be notified to the Company within 3 days of receipt of the Goods and if the Company so demands the Goods will be returned to the Company for examination whereupon if the complaint is found to be justified then the Goods will be replaced free of charge. (b) Any complaints as to condition or quality relating to part of an order will not affect the liability of the Buyer to make payment within the stipulated time in respect of the remainder of the order. No claim by the Buyer in respect of the Goods shall be accepted or deemed to have been accepted by the Company save by an acceptance in writing signed by a director of the Company. For the avoidance of doubt no employee representative or agent of the Company is authorised to make any representations concerning the Goods or these Terms and Conditions save as agreed in writing and signed by a director of the Company and the Company shall not be liable for any such representations which were not so confirmed. (c) The Company gives no guarantees or warranties whether specific or implied that the Goods are fit for the purpose for which the Buyer intends to use such Goods whether known or unknown to the Company at the time of the Buyer placing the order other than they are fit for the particular purpose or purposes specified by the manufacturer of the Goods in its literature published from time to time or contained inside the packaging of the Goods. (d) AIl other warranties terms and conditions relating to the fitness for purpose of the Goods or otherwise and whether implied by statute or coon law or otherwise are hereby excluded to the extent permitted by law. (e) Notwithstanding anything contained in these Terms and Conditions no liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence of the Company is excluded or North Sales: South Sales: Sales Fax: sales@mi-flues.com limited in any way whatsoever. 9. Settlement Terms: (a) Subject to any special terms agreed in writing between the Seller and the Buyer. The payment shall be made in full without set-off or counterclaim within 30 days of delivery of the Goods and the Company shall have the right to cancel or suspend any further orders for Goods in the event that earlier invoices are overdue at the time a further order is received or due to be dispatched. (b) After the expiration of 30 days from delivery of the Goods the Company shall be entitled to charge interest on the outstanding balance at the rate of 24% per annum from that date until the date of settlement. (c) In the event that payment is not made within 30 days of delivery of the Goods (without prejudice to any other tights or remedies of the Company) the Company shall be entitled to charge to the Buyer all costs expenses and other liabilities incurred by the Company in obtaining payment including without prejudice to the generality of the above the costs of any collection agency instructed by the Company 10. Insolvency of Buyer: (i) This clause applies if: (a) the Buyer makes any involuntary arrangement with its creditors or (being an individual or firm) becomes bankrupt or (being a company) becomes subject to an administration order or goes into liquidation (otherwise than for the purpose of amalgamation or reconstruction); or (b) an encumbrance takes possession or a receiver is appointed of any of the property or assets of the Buyer; or (c) the Buyer ceases or threatens to cease to carry on business; or (d) the Seller reasonably apprehends that any of the events mentioned above is about to occur in relation to the Buyer and notifies the Buyer accordingly. (ii) If this clause applies then, without prejudice to any other right or remedy available to the Seller, the Seller shall be entitled to cancel the contract or suspend any further deliveries under the contract without any liability to the Buyer and if the goods have been delivered but not paid for, the price shall become iediately due and payable notwithstanding any previous agreement or arrangement to the contrary. 11. Liability: (i) The Seller s liability whether in respect of one claim or in the aggregate arising out of any contract shall not exceed the purchase price payable under the contract. (ii) Except as specifically provided in these Conditions, and for death or personal injury resulting from the Sellers negligence, no liability is accepted for any direct or indirect costs, damages or expenses relating to damage to property or injury or loss to any person, firm or company or for any loss of profits or production arising out of or occasioned by any defect in or failure of goods or materials or parts thereof supplied by the Seller. (iii) The Seller will not be held responsible for unusual wind conditions or turbulence or climatic conditions or geographical conditions which may affect the operation of any chimney and/or appliance. It is for the Buyer to satisfy himself of the suitability of any product intended to be used in any particular location. (iv) The seller will not be held responsible for opinions expressed by it s sales team regarding suitability for installation or performance of it s products. 12. Jurisdiction: All orders accepted by the Company for sale and supply of Goods to a Buyer in Scotland and any dispute arising there from shall be governed by Scottish law and subject to the non- exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish Courts otherwise all orders accepted by the Company shall be governed by English law and subject to the jurisdiction of the English Courts 13. Force Majeure: The Company shall not be deemed to be in breach of contract or otherwise be liable by reason of any delay in performance or non-performance of any of its obligations hereunder to the extent that such delay or non-performance is due to strike lockout, industrial action or any circumstance beyond the reasonable control of the Company. 14. Preservation: Any order placed by the Buyer for Goods from the Company and which is governed by these Terms and Conditions may at the option of the Company be registered into books of Council and Session in Scotland for preservation and execution and the Buyer in placing such an order with the Company shall be deemed by their acceptance of the Terms and Conditions hereof, to have agreed to this.
