Twelve notifications of restrictions on imports from Hungary were circulated in document L/4549 dated 16 September The following notifications have been received from Australia, Canada, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Sweden. 3. Contracting Parties which have not yet submitted notifications are invited to do so without delay. AUSTRALIA I have been instructed by my authorities to advise you that Australia does not maintain any discriminatory restrictions on imports from Hungary. CANADA Canada maintains no discriminatory prohibitions or quantitative restrictions against Hungary of the kind referred to in paragraph 4(c) of the Protocol for the Accession of Hungary. NORWAY Norway and Hungary negotiate protocols under the bilateral trade agreement establishing quotas for the import of goods that are subject to restrictions, mainly textiles. Enclosed please find a table giving information on imports under the quotas established for The quotas have not been changed from 1976 to 1977, but as will be seen from the table most of the quotas were not fully utilized in 1976.

2 L/4549/Add.1 Page 2 As regards the scope of Norwegian restrictions on imports from Hungary, I may refer to the Norweeian notification included in GATT document L/4155/Add.3 of 13 June The restrictions in force as of AuGust 1977 are identical with those listed in that notification. In 1975 and 1976 general import licensing was introduced for certain textiles and ready-made clothes in addition to those listed in the above-mentioned notification. However, import licences for the goods in question are given automaticy, and the licence requirement does not constitute any restriction on imports from Hungary.

PORTUGAL I have the honour to inform you that my country's authorities declare that they do not apply any discriminatory quantitative restrictions to imports from Hungary. That being the case, the communication of identical content, sent you in 1975 and reproduced in docent L/4228 (31 October 1975), retains its validity. What is more, the Portuguese-Hungarian Agreement of 23 January 1975 already provided that there would be no measures affecting their respective imports in a special. or discriminatory way. ROMANIA Romania does not apply discriminatory quantitative restrictions to imports from Hungary. SWEDEN I have the honour to send you enclosed, the Swedish notification concerning restrictions on imports from Hungary. Certain modifications regarding products listed in Annex IIA of L/4174, have also been made. Thus there is no longer any licensing requirement for products ex 17.02, ex and as well as For CCCN , as well as , and ex an automatic licensing requirement has been introduced.
