8 Notes on Contributors Jonas Campion is a postdoctoral researcher funded by the Nord-Pas-de-Calais Region at the Institut de recherches historiques du Septentrion (Irhis, U. Lille 3, France), and invited Lecturer in History at the UCLouvain, Belgium. From 2011 to 2014, he was FRS-FNRS Postdoctoral Researcher attached to the Centre of Law and Justice History (UCLouvain, Belgium). He is currently working on security policies and police history in Europe. He holds a PhD in History at UCLouvain and Paris IV Sorbonne (2009) on European Gendarmeries at the end of the Second World War, and in 2011 published Les gendarmes belges, français et néerlandais à la sortie de la Seconde Guerre mondiale (Bruxelles, André Versaille). 9 Notes on Contributors ix at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, where she worked from 1998 to 2006 in the History Department as a researcher of the Belgian National Fund for Scientific research, and obtained her PhD on girl delinquency in the interwar period in She conducts historical-criminological research on juvenile delinquency and juvenile justice, girls and women in criminal justice, urban policing, and transgressive uses of urban public space. Amandine Lauro is a postdoctoral researcher of the Belgian National Fund for Scientific Research (FRS-FNRS) at the Free University of Brussels (ULB). Her research interests include histories of imperialism in Central Africa, gender and sexual politics of empire, colonial policing, and urban order. She has published on colonial prostitution, interracial sexuality, gender and colonial law and more recently on urban policing, race, and colonial surveillance in the Belgian Congo. Laurent López is an associate researcher at the CESDIP (Centre for Sociological Research on Law and Criminal Justice Institutions) and at the Centre for Nineteenth Century History (University Paris-Sorbonne). He is specialized in French and European police forces history, in particular the relations between gendarmes (French military police) and policemen. He obtained a PhD in History in His thesis was published in 2014 under the title La guerre des polices n a pas eu lieu. Les réintégrations sans épuration des commissaires de police, Histoire & Mesure, 2014, Vol. 39, No. 2, pp Guus Meershoek is Lecturer in Police History at the Dutch Police Academy (Apeldoorn) and Assistant Professor in Political Sciences at the University of Twente, the Netherlands. He studied Political Sciences at the University of Amsterdam and wrote a dissertation on the Amsterdam police and the German occupation (Dienaren van het gezag, 1999). His main research interests are modern policing, safety governance, and the history of the Dutch police. He did research on organized crime and the fight against organized crime, on traffic policing, on undercover policing, and on international police cooperation and participated in a project on the history of the Dutch police. A special topic is the persecution and deportation of the Dutch Jews during the German occupation. He published several books, among these are De groep IJzerman.
