WILD HOG WILD BBQ & BLUE GRASS: Sept 15 th JULY 2018 When in the business world one consistently performs at an incredibly higher level, the normal course of events is that it is acknowledged and rewards are given. However, in politics stellar performance seems to rarely count and spins by the opposition are put on it that any achievements are due to them. It doesn t take too much to see it day in and day out with the outstanding performance of our President, Donald J. Trump. Going back to the Obama Administration and looking at their eight years in office, you have to ask what was accomplished that we can be proud as well done. Let s look. How about Obama Care? How about the Iran deal? How about ISIS running rampant throughout the world? How about North Korea constantly threatening the USA with its nuclear program? How about a Federal Government that was choking entrepreneurship with regulatory mandates? How about its Open Border policy that has created a massive immigration mess? How about turning the FBI and the Justice Department into Democratic political pawns? I believe I could go on and on, but incredibly in the midst of all the above, Barack Obama gets the Nobel Peace prize and constant accolades from the left wing Press. Obviously, performance has nothing to do with the left wing. Just ask yourself, what they have to offer the country now. The answer is nothing. Now, let s look at our President Donald J. Trump s performance after 18 months in office. 1. Slashed the corporate tax rates and individual rates. 2. Slashing Federal bureaucracy so businesses can create and expand without choking regulations. 3. Essentially, has neutralized ISIS with aggress- Ive military action. 4. Met with North Korea and started disarmament of their nuclear program. 5. Clamped down on illegal immigration with Zero Tolerance. 6. Significantly expanded the military budget to rebuild it after years of negligent. 7. Working on reducing the size of the Federal work force to bring some sanity to it. So, here we have a person with great skills and determination to Drain the Swamp and Make America Great Again, getting hammered by the left wing press each and every minute. We should all thank God that we finally have a leader with the courage to take on these huge challenges, and to tell the left wing Press their day of fabricating news is over. It will be interesting to see if President Trump gets the Nobel Peace Prize. He actually deserves it for averting a nuclear confrontation, but, as I said, performance in politics doesn t seem to matter. Gene Gene Murtha: President, CCRC Charles Krauthammer, a longtime Fox News contributor, Pulitzer Prize winner, Harvard-trained psychiatrist and best-selling author who came to be known as the dean of conservative commentators, has died at the age of 68. Truly a conservative voice in the wilderness of the liberal media. An author of so many quotes directed to liberal media and issues. An example....

In Today s BITTer PolITIcs A Reflection on The Past Page Page 2 2 BY: Robert R McMillan Today, there is too much bitter rhetoric in the political process on both sides of the political aisle. All of this has caused me to reflect on my involvement in Washington as Counsel to Senator Kenneth B Keating, a Republican from NY, and serving on the staff of Richard Nixon before his election as President in Forty years ago, Richard M. Nixon resigned as President of the United States. This unprecedented event was sad for the nation and decidedly sad for the president and his family. It was also a poignant time for Congressman Peter W. Rodino Jr., who, as chairman of the Congressional Committee responsible for the impeachment process and who helped to develop the facts which led to President Nixon's resignation. I was privileged to know both men on a personal level and I still have a deep respect for each. Beginning in the late '70s and into the '80s, I had the opportunity to join the "Chairman" for private dinners on many occasions. His Council, Jim Cline was a dear friend from my days as Counsel to Senator Kenneth B Keating. There were always meals with the philosophical menu taking a higher place than the food on the table though, I must admit that the food was often very good. Against this backdrop, I had the opportunity to talk to Peter Rodino some forty years ago about some of the events from those agonizing days in It was a little after 7 p.m. on July 27, 1974 when the House Impeachment Panel recommended the removal of President Nixon. Here is what he had to say. Right after the vote, Peter Rodino left the Chair and went to his office behind the hearing room. He asked his staff assistants to leave and made a call to his wife. They talked briefly about the vote and its consequences. As he completed the call, all of the emotion of the moment and the tension of the previous several months overcame him. "I broke down and cried," Mr. Rodino told me. That mark of compassion best describes who Peter Rodino was at the time of the impeachment hearings. He continued his discussion about President Nixon's resignation with sensitivity. "I've always regarded that as a sad part of our history. To fall in such a way is sad, and it had to be sad for Nixon." Mr. Rodino's words reached back to that period with empathy for both President Nixon and the nation. However, Mr. Rodino felt strongly that President Nixon could have stopped the process very early if he had only brought out all the facts. In spite of Chairman Rodino's clear criticism, he expressed some positive feelings for the Nixon Presidency. "President Nixon," Mr. Rodino firmly stated, "was a good diplomat and a good politician. His opening to China was outstanding. He is to be lauded for that. There were many issues he was responsible for bringing to the fore." When I asked for specifics beyond China, Mr. Rodino said, "He was also responsible for the Legal Service Program; and while I didn't agree philosophically, he was good on many social issues." There is no doubt that Richard Nixon had a positive impact on the nation in many ways. The opening to China, while even today fragile and tenuous, created the opportunity for some democratic expression. The China move also gave the United States the opportunity for a balancing of power vis-a-vis, the Soviet Union during the Cold War. For many, those achievements have tended to outweigh the events following "Watergate." For others, "Watergate" will always be a dominant memory from the Nixon presidency. What I still miss, is the friendships across the aisle, something we desperately need in today s political climate!

Page 4 Page 3 MIXERS FOR THE MONTHS OF JULY & AUGUST HAVE BEEN CANCELLED. OUR NEXT MIXER WILL BE ON MONDAY, SEPT. 5-6:30 pm: Laishley Crab House ************************************************ SPECIAL NOTICE As most of our members know, our club in conjunction with the three other Charlotte clubs have sponsored for the past four years, the Republican of the Year Award & Dinner. For three of the prior years the REC has joined with the Clubs in support of the event. Last year, the REC, under new leadership chose to disassociate with this event and the Clubs on their own proceeded to organize a very successful evening. Early this year we selected a date for the event at the Isles YC and actively engaged with the other clubs to nomlinate this year s recipient of the award. Two months ago the REC, in competition with our event, created their own award naming it Statesman of the Year and scheduling it at the Isles YC two weeks prior to our date. This has created a situation where people will not want to attend both events and as a result each party will suffer. At our June CCRC Board of Directors meeting we voted to reluctantly recommend that our Republican of the Year event be postponed for The other participating clubs agreed with this recommendation. ********** Now for the good news. Turn to page 4 to see the flyer for the combined Charlotte Clubs return to the traditional WILD HOGS WILD BAR-B-Q with a brand new feature this year. We have added live Blue Grass music by the Florida Mountain Boys. Saturday Sept. 11:00 is the date & the location, Bay Front Center on E. Marion. Tickets will be sale shortly.

Lies, Statements and Name Calling Page 5 BY: Jerry O Halloran, CCRC Vice Pres. When you tell a lie often enough others repeat it. When you are short on facts you resort to vile names -- and others repeat them. When I hear someone say, Trump lies all the time. I counter with, Tell me just three lies Trump has made. They can t. They tend to make things up, or just repeat what they heard from someone else. The reason for the Benghazi attack was a Hollywood movie, that was a lie. Mexico will pay for the wall, is a statement -- not a lie. We need to differentiate. By the way, there are many ways Mexico will, and has been, paying for the wall. Since the reduction of the corporate capital gains tax businesses have pulled out of Mexico and/or decided against moving a portion of their business south of the border. That's a large loss of revenue for Mexico. Another byproduct of the tax changes is the number of firms expanding their product line and started hiring more people. How about name calling? I ran a short test on the word Misogynist. Two of every five people I asked did not really know the true meaning of the word. But it sounds evil. I got the same results with Narcissistic. A recent letter accused the Sun newspaper of Protecting Trump. Considering its selection of editorialists, if the Sun went any further left it would have to change its name to a subset of the Washington Post. Both consistently ignore President Trumps great accomplishments. If Hillary had won the election we would not be investigating her lies regarding Benghazi or Russian collusion. Everything would have been buried, and the Swamp corruption continued. But she lost; and President Trump puts America and its people first. He is forcing a new calculus with a new power behind American interests. Obama s passivity is gone. Trump has called North Koreas bluff, and now they are talking. Under Trump s leadership we are enjoying record low unemployment, a soaring stock market, a GDP that has dramatically exceeded most analysts expectations and finally, international respect. A liberal friend commented recently, the most important thing, regardless of political affiliation, is that we are talking and respecting each other's differing opinions. That's healthy. In my opinion, all presidents have lied or exaggerated, and most leaders exhibit some degree of narcissism. People need to check the validity of statements before passing them on. Record low unemployment is not just an accident, and definitely not a carry-over from Obama. Border enforcement has also reduced money sent back to Mexico. Again, Mexico will pay for the wall, is a statement. We can t save the entire world. I advise my caregiver friends to stay healthy so they can be good caregivers. It s the same with our global economy. The U.S. needs to stay healthy so we can offer some support for many of our needy neighbors. Trump is our President. Support him; and stand and respect our National Anthem. Let s truly, Make America Great

IMMIGRATION & OVERSTRESSED WELFARE SYSTEMS Page 6 Pg. 2 BY: Frank Mazur Current immigration is capped at 1 million. Our population will double to $625 million by 2100 if 2 million immigrants enter our country a year. What we accept for immigration reform today will determine what our country will become in less than a generation. This country can t absorb everyone. We re currently spending $130 billion a year for illegal immigrants. It s not realistic to solve other countries problems when we have pressing needs like Social Security, Interest. Medicare and Medicaid obligations that already consume close to 70 percent of our federal budget. Our current immigration mess results from political stalemate. Democrats seek political votes from immigrants and some Republicans want short term business gains through cheap labor. Taxpayers are being sold out threatening our country s future. If nothing happens taxpayers will revolt against funding an overstressed welfare system with illegals who will find ways to join our voter checklists and support candidates that promise them more. Democrats and activists have staked out that political agenda. Just listen to their emotional rhetoric. It s important to support candidates who will protect our borders and accept immigrants on merit like Canada and Australia. We need to keep yearly immigration at 1 million, e-verify all employees, allow limited temporary work visas and end chain migration. Vetted DACA children could earn citizenship but need to apply like other immigrants. We must preserve the sovereignty of our country and our borders. The next election will determine the direction we will be taking. We get what we accept. The Democrat Leadership Addressing the Immigration issue
