1 UCSC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT MASTERS O EDUCATION AND CALIORNIA CREDENTIAL PROGRAM INORMATION BULLETIN # August 1, 017 Welcome to the UCSC MA/Credential Program. Included below is important information and deadlines that we want to bring to your attention prior to the first day of summer bridge classes. Be sure to take the time to review ALL information included in MA/Credential Program bulletins. You are responsible for meeting any action items and/or deadlines that are placed upon you as a student. The bulletin is formatted so that you may utilize it as a checklist if you so desire. Keep a copy of each bulletin for current and future reference. All bulletins will be sent to your UCSC account. If you have any questions regarding your enrollment, credentialing and or testing requirements, please Kim Jackson at kljacks@ucsc.edu. ACTION ITEM/ INORMATION DUE DATE TB Test Results Submission Deadline: August 7 August 7 August 7 is the deadline to forward your TB test results to Esperanza Zamora (zamora@ucsc.edu). Please scan your document and it as an attachment to Zamora@ucsc.edu Remember to keep a copy of your test results. Do not give us the original! All K-1 schools require anyone working with children to be tested for TB. You can get tested through the UCSC Student Health Center ( to make an appointment) or your private doctor. If you have been tested for TB within the past two years you may use those results to complete this requirement. UCSC Credentialing Services Office will be closed: August 9 to August 9 Aug. 9-9 Kim Jackson will be out of the office from August 9-August 9. If you have an urgent need for Kim s assistance while she is away please send her an and she will get back to you within 48 hours. Student Teaching Orientation: August 9 Student Teaching Orientation for Multiple and Single Subject students will be held on Wednesday, August 9th from 4:30-5:30 (4:15-5:30 for Math and Science cohorts). See cohort meeting room locations below. You will have a chance to meet with your university supervisor and learn about your student teaching placement. August 9 4:30-5:30pm 4:15-5:30pm (Math & Science) Attendance at the orientation is mandatory. Orientation Meeting Rooms (August 9, 4:30-5:30 pm) s: Room 153 English/Social Science s: Room 3170 Math/Science s: Room 09 (Note Math & Science will begin at 4:15 pm) NOTE: Teacher Candidates are expected to experience the beginning of the school year in their placement. Some schools begin earlier in August than others. We would like you to spread ten hours 1
2 of observations over multiple days during the first few weeks of school so that you can see the ways that routines are set up and also begin to get to know the children in your classroom. or most of you, this means that the week after summer classes end on September 1 is a Week ON so that you can participate in the beginning of the school year. We encourage you to your university supervisor if you have specific questions or concerns about how to best engage in your new placement during this time. all Quarter Enrollment Instructions Attached, you will find the MA/Credential fall quarter schedules (blue for MS and yellow for SS) and enrollment instructions. Important: ollow instructions in the section of the schedule when enrolling in your courses so that you are in the correct section for your cohort! Enrollment opens on Weds. August 9th. You must be fully enrolled in all your all classes by September 30. August 9 (all enrollment begins) Please note that some of your fall quarter classes will begin early for September Bridge during the week of September All other fall qtr. classes begin on/after Sept. 8. Grade Option Selection for Summer Courses August 11 You have been enrolled in your summer courses to receive non-letter grades (Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory). Should you wish to receive letter grades in your current summer courses you will need to change the Grade Option setting in the MyUCSC portal in each of your courses by August 11. You may wish to receive letter grades if you desire a graduate student GPA. or more information please see the UCSC Graduate Student Handbook at, or instructions on completing the Grade Option Selection process through the MyUCSC portal, see Graduate Student Health Insurance ALL Waiver Deadline: September 1 The deadline to submit the graduate student health insurance waiver for all Quarter is September 1. or more information, please see the UCSC Student Health Center website at, CSET Passing Verification Deadline: September 1 September 1 September 1 September 1 st is the deadline to submit passing verification for all CSET subtests required to meet the Subject Matter Requirement for their credential subject area. Students who have received an extension for the CSET must forward their official CSET scores results to Kim Jackson (kljacks@ucsc.edu) by the September 1 st deadline. inal Transcript Submission Deadline for Non-UCSC Degree Completers: September 1 (Graduate Admissions) September 1 September 1 st is the deadline for non-ucsc degree completers to submit an official copy of their final undergraduate transcripts (with degree confirmation) to Graduate Admissions. Note: this is in addition to the transcripts that you submitted with your program application. (Please remember that you will also need to submit another copy of your final transcripts to the department for your credential application by December 1 st.)

September Bridge: September 11-7 September Bridge begins Sept. 11th and is an early start to some of the fall quarter classes. You will not need to register separately for September Bridge nor do you pay additional fees since these courses are part of your fall quarter. The following fall quarter classes begin during September Bridge: EDUC 00 (MS/SS)- Beginning Student Teaching Seminar; EDUC 11 (MS/SS)- ; and EDUC 0 Teaching Reading (MS only). September Bridge Sept Please see the Summer Bridge/all Quarter Schedules on pages 4 and 5 below. Pay special attention to the section of the schedules for important information. US Constitution Requirement and Test all Quarter You may fulfill the US Constitution Requirement through the Educ. Department test offered twice per quarter during the all, Winter and Spring quarters. The tests are free. Esperanza Zamora at zamora@ucsc.edu to sign up and receive an electronic study guide. Please contact Esperanza to reserve your seat at least 4 hours prior to the exam. She will you to confirm your test registration. Deadline to verify completion of the U.S. Constitution Requirement: July 1, 018 Mail Boxes and Student Lounge Student mailboxes are located in the student lounge in the Education Department wing on the second floor of McHenry in room 167. The code for the locked door to 167 McHenry is You will need this code to access your mailbox. Look for any returned coursework and department notices in your mailbox. We recommend that you check your mailbox at least once/week throughout the year. The student lounge is a shared room for MA and PhD students. Please keep it tidy!
