1 ECN 211: PRINCIPLES OF MACROECONOMICS SYLLABUS Contact: Brigida Banfelder, Economics department Administrative Assistant Hours: Mon Fri, 7:00a.m. 4:00 p.m. Phone: (623) Course Description: This course is an introduction to macroeconomics and provides an analysis of the structure and functioning of the American economy. Topics include: factors that determine national income and employment levels; causes and effects of unemployment and inflation; monetary and fiscal policies. Attendance Policy Class attendance is expected and roll will be taken. Absences are limited to twice the number of times the class meets per week. Students who miss more than the number of authorized absences may be dropped at the discretion of the instructor. I take roll at the beginning of class. Students who miss roll will be considered absent. Withdrawal Students who wish to drop the course must carry out the necessary administrative process of filling out and submitting a withdrawal form. Students who do not complete the course and do not submit the required withdrawal forms may receive a failing grade for the class.
2 Tests Four tests will be given. Students are expected to take the tests when they are scheduled. Make-up tests Classes that meet M-W-F mornings: Tests must be made up before the following Wednesday class meeting Evening classes: Tests must be made up before the next scheduled class meeting. No more than one test may be made up without penalty. If more than one test has to be made up, the grade on those tests will be reduced by one letter grade. There is no make-up for Test #4 Make-up tests will be available in the Testing and Disability Services Building (TDS-118). Phone: (623) Hours for testing: Mon Thu: 8:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Fri: 8:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. Grades Your course grade will be determined by taking an average of the four test scores: (A = ; B = 80-89; C = 70-79; D = 60-69; F = < 60) Important dates to remember: Fri, Oct 3 rd : Last day to withdraw without instructor s signature; (last day to drop with a guaranteed grade of W ) Mon, Dec 1 st Last day student-initiated withdrawal accepted (Remember, if you wish to drop the course, it is your responsibility to complete and submit the proper withdrawal form. Otherwise, you may receive a failing grade for the class.)
