Contact Clark Broome (work) (cell) eclarkbroome@ TE.com I hope this finds everyone having a safe and enjoyable holiday season with family and friends. We had a very successful 2013 and I look forward to the schedule we have for the first half of We had a wonderful Christmas party this year thanks to the hard work and dedication of Tim and Linda Earley. They generously opened up their historic home to us, prepared a fantastic meal and made everyone feel at home with tours of the house. I can t thank Tim and Linda enough for everything they did. Everyone in attendance really enjoyed the chance to celebrate the Holidays together. Once again we had a lively game of Dirty Santa with some nice gifts which were well received and in some instances saw multiple hands as they were coveted by the Dirty Santa s in the crowd. If you could not attend this year I surely hope you will be able to next year as it is always a great time. I am pleased to announce that on January 14th we will be touring RF Micro Devices, Inc. (RFMD) in Greensboro. RFMD is a global leader in the design and manufacture of high-performance semiconductor components. Their products enable worldwide mobility, provide enhanced connectivity, and support advanced functionality in the cellular handset, wireless infrastructure, WLAN, CATV/broadband, and aerospace & defense portfolio of GaAs, GaN, Si, and SiGe semiconductor technologies and RF systems expertise. They are a preferred supplier to the world s leading mobile device and communications equipment providers. In the world of compound semiconductor manufacturing for RF applications, gallium arsenide (GaAs) makes up the largest subset. RFMD is the world s leading manufacturer of GaAs compound semiconductors. The Wafer Fab in Greensboro is RFMD s primary foundry for GaAs and GaN semiconductor components assembled into multi-component modules. This makes up a cell phones high power amplifier sending the signal to the cell tower. The Greensboro Wafer Fab creates thousands of individual circuits on each 150mm diameter GaAs wafer during a two week production cycle. The finished wafer is laser cut into its individual circuits (chips) which become the amplifier used in wireless devices. After the tour we will enjoy a dinner provided by Tricia s. Zach Lyon will be speaking about Perfect Plastics Through Pro/E. This is a great opportunity that I hope you will be able to attend. Please RSVP to Clark Broome eclarkbroome@te.com or by January 10th. See all of the details on page 14. Looking ahead to the February meeting when we will be having our Education Night at NC State University. This night will be focused on the local polymer educational programs we support, the students, and the essay winner for this year. I hope everyone can attend to show them our support. I truly hope that 2014 will be a Happy New Year seeing growth and opportunities for each and every one of you. Rodney Joslin
