6 We want students to: Evaluate the quality of online information or any information that they seek. Think about the many dimensions of research.
7 CLASS VISITS STARTING AT 100 LEVEL COURSES SHOW BASIC SEARCHING DATABASE NAVIGATION 300 AND 400 LEVEL MORE RIGOROUS DIG DEEPER INTO DATABASES ANALYZE RESULTS SOME GRAD CLASSES AS A REVIEW
8 We teach students to think critically about their search results Use reasoned judgements about the quality of the information. Relevance- does the information fill the project need? Accuracy- can the details be verified? Are there any biases from the author or within yourself? Reliability- is the information trustworthy? Is the author an expert in the field? Does the article come from a good publishing source? E.g.. A scholarly journal.
9 COURSE RESOURCES ARE DESIGNED TO PROVIDE DIRECT LINKS TO DATABASES AND RELIABLE WEBSITES PROVIDE LIBRARY LOCATION AND AVAILABILITY See example on next slide.
