To be a member of the United States Congress, one must be of proper age, a citizen, and a resident of the area to which they represent. Congress can override a President s veto of a bill by a vote of 2/3 of both houses of Congress.

11 Executive Branch Presiding officer of the Executive Branch of government is the President of the United States Must be 35 years of age, live 14 years in the United States & be a natural born citizen Term is 4 years One of the checks the President has on Congress is the ability to veto bills. The President is considered the Commander & Chief of all the armed forces The President may appoint a judge to the supreme court as long as a vacancy is available, the Senate then has to approve the appointment. Duty: Enforce Laws

12 Judicial branch Main duty is to evaluate the laws (make judgments or interpret the laws) Supreme Court Judges are given appointments for LIFE There are 9 Supreme Court Justices The final power to rule on the constitutionality of law is the Supreme Court of the US

13 So what about the Constitution??? Important information concerning the document Changes in the Constitution are called amendments The main body of the constitution is made up of Articles. There are 7 articles of the Constitution. The first 10 Amendments to the Constitution are called the BILL OF RIGHTS. The 1 st Amendment to the Constitution protects citizens to the freedom of religion, press, & assembly. The Constitution has only been amended 27 times in the past 200 years!
