I. INTRODUCTION PUBLIC COMMENT FOR ITEMS NOT ON THE AGENDA None II. REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF AGENDA /MINUTES VOTED: Motion by Director Cone to approve the agenda as amended, seconded by Director Jermyn. 13,612 0 VOTED: Motion by Director Cone to approve the minutes of the March 2, 2017 Regular Board Meeting, 13,612 0 March 8, 2017 Special Board Meeting (5:15 pm) and March 8, Special Board Meeting (6:15 pm) seconded by Director Bechard. III. RECOGNITION AND CELEBRATIONS The Board recognized GAHS Freshman, Kiersten Weed, top ten video finalist in the Kid Witness News Program s Public Service Announcement Contest. Gardiner Area High School Senior and Poetry Out Loud National Finalist, Gabrielle Cooper, recited the poem, To Be of Use, by Marge Piercy. The Gardiner High School Robotics Team qualified for the district championship at the University of New Hampshire. 1 msad11

2 The Board welcomed newly elected West Gardiner Board Member, Earle McCormick to the MSAD 11 Board of Directors. IV. CORRESPONDENCE A. LETTER OF RESIGNATION RECEIVED FROM DONNA TARDIF, PRINCIPAL, PITTSTON CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL V. COMMITTEE REPORTS A. CURRICULUM COMMITTEE No Meeting. B. DROPOUT PREVENTION COMMITTEE At its March 23 rd meeting, the Committee discussed Chapters 1 & 2 of their Professional Read /Book Study, Closing the Attitude Gap: How to Fire Up Your Students to Strive for Success. The Committee also discussed the survey of elementary students to be conducted in May. C. EDUCATIONAL PLAN COMMITTEE No Meeting. D. FINANCE COMMITTEE At its March meetings, the Committee continued its discussion regarding the Requested Budget. The Finance Committee previously indicated to Administrators that it might be amenable to an increase to local taxpayers of approximately $400,000 to $420,000. Administrators discussed with the Committee projected class size numbers while reviewing the District s Class Size Policy (Policy IIB). The Committee also reviewed high school athletic programs and participation levels. The Budget presented at the April 3 rd Finance Committee meeting was $518,079 more than the current FY 2017 Budget, an increase of 2.17%. With an increase of $699,694 to local taxpayers, Committee members stated there was still additional work to do. During the month of March, the Committee also reviewed and discussed the Adult Education and School Nutrition Budgets. E. NEGOTIATIONS COMMITTEE F. POLICY COMMITTEE At its March 2 nd meeting, the Committee moved policies for School Board approval VOTED: Director Jermyn motioned to move Policy BEDH back to the Policy Committee for further review of 11,131 2,481 Section 1 of the Policy, seconded by Director McCormick. 2 msad11

3 Motion carried with Directors Bechard and Boudway voting against. RELATIONS BY OBJECTIVE COMMITTEE No Meeting H. GARDINER AREA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT REPRESENTATIVE REPORT Student representatives briefly discussed extra-curricular and co curricular activities. I. STUDENT WELLNESS COMMITTEE At its March 20 th meeting, the Committee sent revisions of the District Wellness Policy to the Policy Committee. The Committee also began its planning of the District 5K road race. VI. GENERAL INFORMATION The following have been approved by the Superintendent: A. HAMLIN SCHOOL AND PITTSTON CONSOLIDATED SCHOOL VOTED: Motion by Director Jermyn, to approve the submission of School Construction Applications for Teresa 13,612 0 C. Hamlin School and Pittston Consolidated School, seconded by Director Couture. B. TWO YEAR COOPERATIVE SWIM TEAM AGREEMENT WITH RSU 2 VOTED: Motion by Director Jermyn to approve a Two Year Cooperative Swim Team Agreement with RSU 2, 13,612 0 seconded by Director Cone. C SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR VOTED: Motion by Director Jermyn, to approve the School Year Calendar, seconded by Director 13,612 0 Chadwick. D. GARDINER AREA HIGH SCHOOL DAY OF CARING Gardiner Area High School Principal, Chad Kempton, discussed with the Board the 16-year evolution and current challenges of the GAHS Day of Caring. VOTED: Motion by Director Fles, to discontinue the Day of Caring at Gardiner Area High School, seconded by 13,612 0 Director Couture. 4 msad11

BOARD CHAIR REPORT National School Board Conference The Board Chair attended, on behalf of the MSBA, the National School Board Association Conference March 23 rd 28 th. B. SUPERINTENDENT REPORT Pittston Consolidated School Principal Search - Update An Interview Committee is being created to begin the process of reviewing applications for the Principal of Pittston Consolidated School. Transportation Department The MSAD 11 Transportation Department will begin collecting gently used coats for kids. XI. EXECUTIVE SESSION VOTED: Motion by Director Jermyn to go into executive session at 8:33 p.m. to discuss negotiations with the 13,612 0 Gardiner Teachers Association pursuant to 1 M.R.S.A. 405(6)(D), seconded by Director Babcock. The Board reconvened at 8:42 p.m. VOTED: Motion by Director Jermyn to go into executive session at 8:43 p.m. to discuss negotiations with the 13,612 0 Gardiner Educational Technicians and Administrative Assistant Association pursuant to 1 M.R.S.A. 405(6)(D), seconded by Director Bechard. The Board reconvened at 8:49 p.m. VOTED: Motion by Director Fles to go into executive session at 8:49 p.m. to discuss negotiations with the 13,612 0 MSAD 11 Bus Driver Association pursuant to 1 M.R.S.A. 405(6)(D), seconded by Director Couture.
