2 SGA Office Candidacy Requirements All students who are currently enrolled at Cypress Bay High School and meet the criteria below are eligible to seek any class office: A. The candidate must maintain a 2.5 unweighted cumulative grade point average. B. Must have a satisfactory conduct record from the previous term. C. Must obtain 50 signatures from students within the CBHS student body who support your candidacy. D. Must obey all campaign rules and regulations. E. If elected, must be enrolled in a Leadership class during entire term of office. F. Must attend the mandatory candidacy meeting on Thursday, March 31 st afterschool Room 148 G. Must adhere to all election dates, deadlines and rules. Ethical Behavior Agreement: Students selected to a student government or class office are expected to represent the school, and their organization in the best ethical way at all times. The following WILL result in candidate disqualifications and/or, if elected, removal from office: 1. The posting of inappropriate pictures on a website that shows the student in possession of any illegal substance or partaking in any illegal act. 2. Posting inappropriate comments on a website or engaging in cyber bullying. 3. An External Suspension of 1-3 days will result in a sit down conference with the student and the sponsor. A second suspension after warning will result in removal of office. 4. Receiving a teacher referral for cheating. 5. Receiving an external suspension of five (5) days or more. 6. Being caught with or under the influence of illegal substances in schools or under any school based functions including field trips. Specific SGA Officer Requirement & Duties: A. It shall be the duty of the President to: a. Preside over all meetings of the General Assembly b. Use correct parliamentary procedure. c. Vote on any matter in which the assembly is equally divided. d. Appoint the necessary committees. e. Report to the General Assembly the results of official meetings with the Administration and/or Adviser. f. Act as chairperson of the Executive Committee. g. Represent the student body of Cypress Bay High School to all school officials. h. Appoint a Secretary of State. i. Obey and enforce the Student Government Constitution. j. Must be a junior to run for SGA president B. It shall be the duty of the 1st Vice-President to: a. Perform the duties of the President in the event of his/her absence. b. Assume the office of President in case the office becomes vacant. c. Serve as Chairperson of the Inter-Organizational Council (IOC). d. Deliver a report from the IOC to the General Assembly at least once a month. e. Enforce all club and organization regulations. f. Be responsible for all forms that pertain to clubs and organization.
3 g. Help the Administrator in charge of Student Activities with the preparation and update of the master activities calendar. h. Appoint a Secretary of Clubs and Organization. i. Obey and enforce the Student Government Constitution. C. It shall be the duty of the 2nd Vice-President to: a. Be responsible for Student Government activities of an inter-school nature. b. Be responsible for Student Government relations with state, local and national Student Council organizations. c. Deliver a report to the General Assembly whenever necessary. d. Appoint a Secretary for Interschool Affairs. e. Obey and enforce the Student Government Constitution. D. It shall be the duty of the 3rd Vice-President to: a. Serve as chairperson of the Judiciary Committee. b. Deliver a report from the Judiciary Committee to the General Assembly at least once a month. c. Cast a vote in the Judiciary Committee in case of a tie. d. Appoint a Secretary of the Interior. e. Obey and enforce the Student Government Constitution. E. It shall be the duty of the Treasurer: a. Maintain the records of receipts and expenditures of the SGA. b. Handle all funds. c. Deliver an accurate financial report at every General Assembly meeting. d. Co-chair any Student Government fundraising drive. e. Appoint an Assistant to the Treasurer. f. Obey and enforce the Student Government Constitution. F. It shall be the duty of the Recording Secretary to: a. Take minutes and maintain a record of all SGA General Assembly meetings and Executive Committee meetings. b. Prepare the annual activities report of all SGA General Assembly meetings and Executive Committee meetings. c. Appoint a Secretary of Internal Records. d. Advise the President and Advisor as to the reports of any special committees. e. Obey and enforce the Student Government Constitution. G. It shall be the duty of the Corresponding Secretary to: a. Be responsible for all SGA correspondence. b. Be responsible for keeping an accurate attendance record at meetings. c. Be responsible for publicizing all SGA activities. d. Help the 1st Vice-President and the administration in publicizing the Activities calendar. e. Appoint a Secretary of Communications. f. f. Obey and enforce the Student Government Constitution. H. It shall be the duty of the Historian to: a. Be responsible for visually documenting all SGA related activites b. Be responsible for the creation of the annual SGA scrapbook. c. Obey and enforce the Student Government Constitution.

5 All candidates must obey the following Campaign Rules: Campaign Budget: No candidate can spend more than $200 on their election (includes donations) The below promotional strategies are allowed: Promotional Strategy Quantity Allowed Posters 3 Banners 1 Fliers 25 T-shirts 10 Handouts Social Media/Web Unlimited Unlimited Must be standard size Handmade only No larger than 3ft by 5ft Handmade only 8.5 x 11 inches Must be approved & stamped BEFORE making copies Handmade only Other Info Can be hung on the catwalk & interior walls (using blue tape only) Can be hung on the catwalk only (use ribbon to hang) Can be hung on metal flier racks only (No more than 1 per rack) Exception: Can be hung in portables using blue tape Must be handmade No candy, food or beverages can be used Twitter, FB, Snapchat & Candidate is responsible for Instagram may be used all content/retweets/replies, No content can be posted etc. until the campaign period All content must be has begun (April 11 th ) appropriate and not mention any other candidate Prohibited Promotions (NOT allowed) No stickers are allowed UNLESS they are attached to other items and CANNOT be removed No chalk can be used on courtyard or any other area on campus No cups in the fences No club or organization endorsements No food, drinks, candy, etc. Other Promotional Considerations: All promotional materials must be approved by Nascimento BEFORE distributing or hanging. Materials can be brought to room 148 (afterschool to be approved) on April 8 th All promotional materials must be hung using blue painters tape. SGA will not provide blue tape, ribbon, etc. All promotional materials must not harm the school s structure in any way No slandering or mentioning of other candidates during campaigning or during speech. Cannot remove or touch any other candidate s promotional materials Must meet each date and deadline above Must tape candidate speech on scheduled day NO MAKE-UPS! Note: Due to Florida weather, anything hung outside may fall, get rained on, etc. Fallen/ruined materials will be thrown out. Interior materials due sometimes fall. Any materials that do fall, will be thrown out. If you notice your materials, are missing, you may replace items with approval. If any of the rules above are broken, the candidate will be removed from the election.
