2 Course/Module description: The Seminar will deal with the issues, dilemmas and challenges related to the Israeli prison system that are divided into five levels of interest and discussion: a. The Prison as a Total institution on his various characteristics (historical development of Prisons published by various theories in Criminology), prisons by security level, Classification of prisoners by prisoners (men, women, youth and security level) B. Prisoners Subcultures of prisoners, the process prisonization and the pains of imprisonment, the impact of imprisonment and isolation, fathers and mothers in prison, relative shelter staff and more. C. staff - guards, professional staff (social workers, educators, doctors, psychologists, psychiatrists), various programs (drug rehab, management violence, parenting, etc.). D. Alternatives to imprisonment traditional and radical: supervision in the community, Abolitionism and other reforms. E. After prison: PRA, towards the future - where and how?. During the seminar we will visit the prison (mandatory participation in these tours); during lessons the students will meet with senior representatives of the IPS. course requirements: a seminar paper and presentation in class. Course/Module aims: Understanding the issues, dilemas and challenges related to the Israeli prison. Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to: Recognize the characteristics of the prison as a total institution. understand the differences between various types of prison relating to the inmates classification, level of security and prison staff. Meet the alternatives of imprisonment and the incarceration reforms. Attendance requirements(%): 90% Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: During lessons the students will meet with senior representatives of the IPS. Course/Module Content: a.
