2 Course/Module description: This course follows the concept of Sovereignty, and how political, ideational, social and technological changes brought it to be an essential concept in ordering the political human life for centuries. The course highlights the massive changes in recent years which destabilized the meaning of the concept and demonstrates its complex character in different contemporary political arenas. Course/Module aims: The students will learn about the historic and political processes which attribute the meaning to one of the central concepts in their research field. They will learn about the socio-cognitive processes which stand at the base of attributing meaning to concepts, and by that will improve their critical thinking regarding what is taking for granted. The students will gain tools to investigate and understand contemporary political actions through the use of the destabilized concept of sovereignty. Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to: Describe the historical development of the concept of sovereignty in the political realm. Compare between different historical meanings of the concept of sovereignty. Explain how political, social, ideational and technological changes bring to a change in the theoretical meaning of concepts. Identify in current political actions the role of the concept of sovereignty in constructing it. Explain the internal contradictions in the concept of sovereignty. Demonstrate the multiple meanings for the concept of sovereignty. Show how current political conflicts are constructed with the concept of sovereignty.
