Tabitha Foundation Cambodia Relief Work 2008 BC Team lead by Jim and Holly S and Kevin and Laura McQ Your guide: DJ Lawrence 1
1 st stop, Hong Kong. Try the gondola s, one of the commute options, don t get a flat! 2
Hong Kong Waterfront 50 years ago, now 1 KM inland. Filling in the HK harbour. 3
Our first night away, HK at dusk from our hotel Little did I know how hard it would be to go back to a different reality with a $120 million house 3 hours away from people dying from not enough to eat. 4
I loved the mixture of Chinese and British culture in HK. The building featured in Batman, from Victoria Peak. 5
Reverse view, and if you look closely, you can see me right there. Bamboo scaffolding, 80 stories high! 6
The Hotel Feng Shui, or what I d call it. The gap lets bad spirits pass through. HK is almost as densely populated as the English Bay area, no joke! 7
Cambodian countryside on approach, just after the monsoon season. Still many areas flooded, note the breeched river banks. 8
Janne Ritskes, in her Phnom Penh shop, Cambodians still participate in the political process in spite of people being killed in the past for expressing an opinion. Pretty humbling, when you look at our voting percentage. 9
Wiring, Cambodian style, never take it down, just add to it! Phnom Penh Victims of War Memorial 10
Our gracious host, Janne Ritskes, her daughter Mariam, born in 1998, and me, at their home in Tuol Sleng Prison S

14
Extensive use of ankle bars controlling from one to 20 prisoners at a time. 15
Wire screen installed after a prisoner suicide. 16
Cell for one or two prisoners. Staircase exactly the same as the high school I went to, hard to imagine. 17
18
7 survivors were rescued from Tuol Sleng Prison. School desk converted into torture rack. 19
Map of Cambodia made after the Khmer were deposed. 20
Home, the Golden Gate Hotel. 21
Mekong River waterfront, from the Foreign Correspondents Club, not a CIA, KGB, or Chinese Agent to be seen anywhere. 22
Phnom Penh, getting ready for the Water Festival, to celebrate the end of monsoon season. 23
Our CSI guy could often tell what killed people from the marks on their skulls. 24
25
Sharp enough to cut your throat, that is what these fronds were used for, to save bullets. 26
Some of our group a little ahead of me, on the path around one of the genocide sites. 27
28
In memory of all the victims of the Khmer Rouge. 29
On the way to our village, they build out onto the water, and don t waste anything. The effects of the monsoons, still very apparent, and dangerous. 30
A hearty welcome from some of the local women and children. 31
A neighbours house, the underside of the house is where most find shelter during the day from the heat. Our empty water bottles were a valued commodity. Bikes are not just transportation, but a means to earn an income and feed your family. 32
Some of our crew and the locals, hard at work, about 95 degree s out. 33
34
35
36
Everyone in Cambodia has their niche, this an amazing deal for ice cream! I even sampled cricket from a similar booth. 37
A young boy with what I m told was his first toy, our nail box. 38
Back to the important stuff, lets play! Two of our local team, they taught me how to swing a hammer and not kill myself on a ladder. 39
40
Our team, 18 to 79 years of age. Will you be on the next team? My last view of the village, you never go back, it is about them, not us. 41
Rice paddies, with sophisticated drainage systems to lengthen the yield. Every pool table decreases the birthrate by 25% for 2 square miles. Rack em up! 42
Yes, she is carrying her own IV bottle! 43
Yay, the famous Hao Hao family, all 7 of them. Glad dad is being safety conscious with the helmet! Mom feeding the baby, don t hit a bump! It s better since he took to the bottle though. 44
Sending two of our smaller members across a war era Bailey Bridge to test its safety, great chivalry guys, letting the women cross first! 45
Glad to report they had a Ministry of Fisheries! (and agriculture and forestry) 46
47
One of many other organizations doing good work in Cambodia, we dropped off some toys and clothes here. 48
Yes, a really BIG bug, I decided I didn t need the loo after all. 49
