Licenses may be purchased by enclosing a money order for the license and issuance fee and mailing to: Marine Resources Division P.O. Box 189 Dauphin Island, Alabama There is no application form. Applicants for shrimp boat and purse seine licenses must include the registered vessel name or state registration number. A copy of the owner s driver s license is needed. Prior to purchasing a live bait dealer license, the person s boat, truck, or place of business must be inspected. Nonresident licenses may be purchased at Marine Resource Division offices at Dauphin Island, Bayou La Batre, and Gulf Shores. The Alabama Legislature passed into law (Act ) which changes the law with regard to eligibility to purchase a commercial license in 1995 and subsequent years. In order to qualify to purchase a license, the applicant must show that he (a) purchased a license in two of five years during the years 1989 to 1993 and provide proof in the form of original unamended income tax returns that at least 50% of his income was derived from the capture and sale of seafood species (commercial fishing) or (b) that he purchased a license in each of the years 1989 to 1993 and paid his applicable Alabama income taxes in each of the years 1989 to Live bait dealer licenses may be purchased only from the Dauphin Island office. Other resident licenses may be purchased at county courthouses and selected agents. 2

Reciprocal Agreements Sport fishermen of Texas and Louisiana who are properly licensed or exempt in either state may fish common boundary lakes and rivers between Louisiana and Texas. Also, states which exempt Texas residents under 17 years of age and 65 years of age or older from fishing licensing requirements in their state are exempt from Texas license requirements. Exempt Categories Residents under 17 years old. Residents 65 years of age and over before September 1, 1995 (date of birth before September 1, 1930). Mentally disabled person who is engaged in recreational fishing as a part of medically-approved therapy and who is fishing under the immediate supervision of personnel approved or employed by a hospital, residence, or school for mentally disabled persons. Nonresidents under 17 years of age from Oklahoma, Kansas, and Louisiana (reciprocal). Nonresidents 65 years of age or older from Kansas and Louisiana (reciprocal). Nonresidents 64 years of age or older from Oklahoma (reciprocal). 12
