2 Invitation Greetings! With the increasing emphasis on the role of gender in development assistance, South Korea, an emerging donor and member of the OECD/DAC, has been expanding its efforts to support the principles for gender equality and women s empowerment in its development aid initiatives. Accordingly, Korean Women s Development Institute (KWDI) has focused on advising the government to incorporate gender-sensitive perspectives in South Korea s assistance to developing countries. As a part of these efforts, KWDI annually hosts an international forum with an objective of mainstreaming gender in development assistance. This year, we are delighted to invite you to the 5th Asia-Pacific Forum on Development and Gender (AP Forum hereafter) to be held on September 13, Under the theme of Towards Gender Equality in the Asia-Pacific Region : Current Efforts and Future Tasks, experts from UN Women are invited to share their knowledge and experience, while KWDI will present its activities in advancing gender equality in the Asia-Pacific Region. The AP Forum of this year is especially designed in line with 2013 KWDI Set and Share the Agenda for Gender Equality (SSAGE) Workshop. This is an annual workshop and a main pillar of KWDI's multi-year ODA research project with Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar and Vietnam. By scheduling the AP Forum on the last day of the 2013 KWDI SSAGE Workshop, about 30 participants from Myanmar and Vietnam will also join the Forum. In addition, two gender experts from Cambodia and Indonesia who have already participated previous KWDI Workshops will attend the forum as discussants to share their experiences and progress since the workshop. We expect that this Forum will become a learning opportunity for all of us who share the common goal of advancing women s situation in Korea and also in the Asia-Pacific Region. We hope you will grace the occasion by your presence. Thank you. September 2013 Keum-Sook Choe President of Korean Women s Development Institute - ii -
