2 What is the Census? Every five years, Statistics Canada conducts a Census providing a detailed account of the Canadian population. The Census is intended to provide snapshot of the demographic, social and economic conditions at a precise moment in time. Why is it important? The Census is a very important tool as it allows for a detailed analysis of the population and can be used to discover emerging trends within Richmond Hill. It helps us understand how we have changed over the years. What will this profile tell me about my community? The 2006 Demographic Profile for Richmond Hill provides information on population and age characteristics, population density, dwelling types, ethnic origin, mother tongue, immigration trends, education, employment rates, occupation types and income distribution.
