1 Socio-economic profile borough February 2002 HIGHLIGHTS In 1996, the borough had a population of 59,714. LOCATION Between 1991 and 1996, the population of the borough declined by 2.6%. One-person households represent 4 of all households in the borough. 11% of residents are immigrants, of whom 29% immigrated between 1991 and % of residents in the borough are homeowners. French is the language spoken at home by most people, i.e. 7 of borough residents, while English is used in 24% of cases. 13% of those in the labour force work in manufacturing, 13% in business services and 11% in health care and social services. 2 POPULATION In 1996, the borough had a population of 59,714, or 3.4% of the population of the city of. The population comprises 27,875 men and 31,850 women. 53.3% of borough residents are women. Nearly 19% of residents have nonuniversity training. 39% of young people aged 15 to 24 in the borough do not attend school, as compared with 3 for the city of. and Sud-Ouest boroughs have the highest rate of 15 to 24 that do not attend school.
