The Treasure Coast Regional Communication Systems program, which consists of Martin and St. Lucie Counties, is working towards the delivery of emergency dispatch services facilitated over an 800 MHz Communication Radio System among all participating agencies and the two Counties have recently entered into an inter-local agreement to reach the goal of a regional radio system. The purpose of this grant application is to begin funding mobile radios. Pursuing this project jointly with the St. Lucie County Fire District will improve communication in the region, efficiency and result in much stronger regional inter-operability between the two counties while providing cost savings to the taxpayers. Martin County Fire Rescue plans to purchase approximately 244 handheld portable radios and St. Lucie County Fire District plans to purchase 152 dash and dual remount mobile vehicle radios. This grant application is needed to fund the replacement of structural firefighting gear, thermal imaging cameras and vehicle extrication equipment. This structural firefighting gear is required to be replaced over the next three (3) years per the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) guidelines. This structural gear and the thermal imaging cameras are critical to firefighter safety. I recognize the value of this project for the safety of our citizens and our firefighters.
