2 IV. SENATE MINUTES 30-02/November 15, 1999 SENATOR M. MORADKHAN made a motion to approve minutes 30-01, seconded by SENATOR P. MORADKHAN. SENATOR GREEN made a correction to the minutes regarding his good of the senate. Move into a vote. Motion passes ANNOUNCEMENTS: MICHELLE TAYLOR of Campus Community Development spoke about the renovations that will be taking place over the holiday break in regards to the Moyer Student Union. SENATOR MURPHY arrives at 6:20 p.m. MICHELLE TAYLOR addresses questions from SENATOR BASTUNAS, SENATOR DAYANI, SENATOR BRINK, and SENATE PRESIDENT PRO- TEMPORE DAVY. V. BOARD AND COMMITTEE REPORTS: A. Senate Committee Reports SENATOR MAIETTA stated that the Ways and Means committee will hold meetings on Monday at 5:30 p.m. before senate meeting. Please drop me a note if this works with you. B. Faculty Senate/University Committee Reports There was none. C. Director Reports: NEVADA STUDENT AFFAIRS DIRECTOR NYSTROM stated what his responsibilities were for the new senate so there was no question. If anyone becomes concerned about my job performance, than please ask myself or SENATOR BOHLKE because she is my assistant director. The voter registration will be next week, sorry about the change in date, it was scheduled for tomorrow. For those of you who do not know my father died last Monday and that is why I was not here all week. ELECTIONS BOARD DIRECTOR RAMIREZ was not present, STUDENT BODY VICE PRESIDENT CANEPA reported for her. Looking for candidates to fill open seat on board, those interested must be present on Monday's at 5:00 p.m. And also be able to meet with me once during the week. Homecoming candidates are being sent more information regarding homecoming. 2
3 CSUN STUDENT SERVICES DIRECTOR WAINSCOTT will give her report during Public Comment, when she is out of class ENTERTAINMENT AND PROGRAMMING DIRECTOR GLANCZ stated he is working with sponsors for rebelpolooza if you would like more information than talk to him about the details later. Also, if anyone has any suggestions for bands please pass on the information to him. For those people interested I am having a meeting upstairs tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. He would like feedback from some of the senate who have been around for a while. The price range is thousand, not exactly sure of the price but that is about the range. SENATOR MAIETTA asked DIRECTOR GLANCZ if Brittney Spears was an option. DIRECTOR GLANCZ replied no. OFFICE OF STUDENT INFORMATION DIRECTOR DELAFONTAINE stated that Senate Bocheres will be available next week. She is starting to update the web page and update pictures and biographies. The pictures will be in tomorrow. C. Business Manager Report BUSINESS MANAGER MOORE stated the weekly expenditures: $ to Facilities MX for Repair of cart batteries and tires, $ to Telecomunications for Phone Bill for October. $ to Facilities MX for Change door signs on CBC/BHS annexes, $50.00 to Las Vegas Video for Projector rental for move "American Pie" 11/7/99, $74.50 to Sparkletts for Water for October, $ to Xerox for Photocopier charges for October, includes base charge of $83 (3069) and usage charges of $ (3074), $ to Allen Chastain for Provisions of ballot counting and polls for Homecoming election, $ to Central Stores for Mies office supplies. He then stated how Senator's get paid by bylaw 44. In order to get paid you must attend 75% of a meeting. If you didn't sign your employment document it needs to be done before you can get paid. Please be sure to bring your drivers license and social security card. ( VII NEW BUSINESS A. Action Item: Discussion/Approval of placing Sunny Martin and Christopher Stevens on the Spring 2000 CSUN Leadership Committee; SENATE PRESIDENT FISK ruled this item out of order. B. Action Item: Nomination/Election of one (1) senator to serve as chair for the Rules and Ethics Committee; 3

Action Item: Nomiantion/Election of one (1) senator to serve on the Faculty Senate Academic Budget Committee; SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE DAVY moved to open nominations, seconded by SENATOR BASTUNAS. SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE DAVY leaves at 6:44 p.m. STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT PECK stated the importance of this position working with the faculty and getting input of what is wanted and needed. SENATOR BASTUNAS moved to nominate SENATOR BOHLKE, seconded by SENATOR M. MOARDKHAN. SENATOR BOHLKE receives the seat by acclimation. D. Action Item: Nomination/Election of one (1) senator to serve on the Faculty Senate Academic Standards Committee; SENATOR BASTUNAS moved to open nominations, seconded by SENATOR BOHLKE. SENATOR BASTUNAS says that this committee meets every Thursday at 10 a.m. SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE DAVY returns at 6:46 p.m. SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE DAVY moves to table this item until the next meeting, seconded by SENATOR MURPHY. SENATOR DAYANI asked about what the committee responsibilities are, and when they meet. 5
6 SENATOR MAIETTA answered that they do not meet very often and when they do meet it is based on a case by case situation. SENATOR GREEN moved to nominate SENATOR DAYANI, seconded by SENATOR TURNER. SENATOR P. MORADKHAN move to nominate SENATOR CORDONE, seconded by SENATOR GANNON. SENATORS DAYANI and CORDONE receives the seats by acclimation. I. Action Item: Nomination/Election of one (1) senator to serve on the Faculty Senate Library Committee; SENATOR MAIETTA made a motion to open nominations, seconded by SENATOR BASTUNAS. SENATOR MAIETTA moved to nominate SENATOR ANZALONE, seconded by SENTOR SCHOENER. SENATOR P. MORADKHAN moved to nominate SENATOR GREEN, seconded by SENATOR DAYANI. SENATOR GREEN declines nomination. SENATOR ANZALONE receives the seat by acclimation. J. Action Item: Nomination/Election of one (1) senator to serve on the Faculty Senate Public Relations Committee; SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE DAVY moved to open nominations, seconded by SENATOR BASTUNAS. SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE DAVY moved to nominate SENATOR CORNELISON, seconded by SENATOR P. MORADKHAN. SENATOR MCLAUGHLIN moved to nominate SENATOR BRINK, SENATOR MURPHY. SENATOR MURPHY declines the nomination. SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE DAVY moved to allow a division of the house roll call vote, seconded by SENATOR CORDONE. 6

Action Item: Nomination/Election of two (2) senators to serve on the Faculty Senate Scholarship Committee; SENATOR BASTUNAS moved to open nominations, seconded by SENATOR SCHOENER. SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE DAVY made a motion to nominate SENATOR CORNELISON, seconded by SENATOR GANNON. SENATOR BASTUNAS made a motion to nominate SENATOR BOHLKE, seconded by SENATOR GREEN. SENATOR GREEN made a motion to nominate SENATOR ELRIFAI, seconded by SENATOR CORDONE. SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE DAVY made a motion to move into a division of the house roll call vote, seconded by SENATOR SCHOENER. Move into a roll call vote. (SENATOR ANZALONE, SENATOR BOHLKE, and SENATOR ELRIFAI abstain.) SENATOR BOHLKE receives 6 votes in favor. SENATOR CORNELISON receives 14 votes in favot. SENATOR ELRIFAI receives 16 votes in favor. SENATOR ELRIFAI and SENATOR CORNELISON receive the seats on this committee. L. Action Item: Discussion/Approval of allocating $1, to cover the costs of Student Body President Peck, NSA Director Nystrom, Student Body Vice President Canepa, and Senator Schroeder to attend the Board of Regents meeting on December 1 st and 2 nd in Reno, NV. Costs to be encumbered from the CSUN 2707 General (travel) account; SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE DAVY moved to approve, seconded by SENATOR CORDONE. 7

Action Item: Discussion/Approval of the $ funding request for the United Social Club of Las Vegas, to be encumbered by the CSUN 2702 (CSUN Services) Account, as submitted by SENATOR MAIETTA; SENATOR MAIETTA moved to combine and approve items M-P, seconded by SENATOR BASTUNAS. SENATOR CORDONE would like to here each one individually. Move into a vote. Motion fails (SENATOR GANNON, SENATOR M. O. B) Action Item: Nomination/Election of one graduating senior (May graduation) to serve on the Regents Academic Advisor Award Committee; SENATE PRESIDENT FISK ruled this item out of order. III. IX PUBLIC COMMENT Mike Kalie, News Editor, from the Rebel Yell, clarified the news section, the front page, and that of the opinion section of the newspaper. If you have comments to make to the opinions editor they go right to Aaron Clemens. Otherwise you can call for more information at DIRECTOR WAINSCOTT stated that she will be doing all of her announcements during public comment because she has class scheduled at the same time as these meetings. She will be assisting Business Manager Moore in anyway possible, starting with the updating of what supplies are available in the office and what needs to be ordered. EXECUTIVE BOARD ANNOUNCEMENTS AND SUMMATIONS 9
10 STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT PECK stated that she has tickets to the game on Saturday if anyone would like tickets it will be on a first come first serve basis. See her after the meeting. She is currently working with Dario Farrerro and public works in regards to the resolution at the MSU and Maryland Parkway. Advisory Board needs to here senate voice so attend if possible. The University College Science fair met some high school students campus planning committee status of construction le me know leadership scholarship committee will be submitted this Friday Request submissions by Friday for executive board press release Director of Police Holonbeck was placed on administrative leave. Committee is meeting at the time that doesn't work with those peoples schedules. We need people who can represent us because we don't know what is going on with the committee, the meeting is at 1:00p.m.on Friday. Public Safety Advisory Committee needs students to sit on the committee. The technology fee money will be used for computers in the residence halls to keep residence out of the main labs and in the building. They meet the first Friday of every month. STUDENT BODY VICE PRESIDENT CANEPA stated that she is working on the conduct code for the university, if anyone has suggestions see her about them. Met with KUNV representative and wanted to see students getting more involved with the radio station. Also the teaching scholarships have an added scholarship. The applications for the scholarships are due on Friday at 5 p.m. Senate Election evaluations are in your box, please fill them out and put them in my box. Also thank you for the tour of the Rebel Yell, directed towards Rebel Yell staff. There was a high school student who wrote an article about the student government working for the students and we should all read the suggestions and try to live by them. SENATE PRESIDENT FISK stated Don't forget to remind people of the student teaching scholarship and let them know that it is due Friday. Deadline for agenda submissions for the meeting on November 29 th is Friday of this week. X. GOOD OF THE SENATE SENATOR HAMBY had no comment. SENATOR ANZALONE stated that he would like to give Director Nystrom his deepest condolescences. He stated that he has been there and that if you need to talk he is here. Director Ramirez isn't here and her excuse is horrible. Having a project for class and having to miss a meeting is rediculous. It shows poor time management skills. I also plan to pass the word in my classes this week about the student teaching scholarship. SENATOR BOHLKE stated that she would like to send out her condolescences to Director Nystrom. Thanks to those who supported me tonight. SENATOR BASTUNAS had no comment. SENATOR SCHOENER had no comment. 10

Student Body Vice President Canepa I agree with your statements regarding CSUN and the Rebel Yell. And to Director Nystrom, I am terrible sorry about your loss. SENATOR HALE had no comment. SENATOR CORDONE stated his condolescences to Director Nystrom. Regarding the spending, I didn't like the first part of this. And to all you football fans, the Buffalo Bills are on a role. SENATOR P. MORADKHAN had no comment SENATOR GREEN stated there will be a meeting for his committee in 2 weeks from now at 5:30 p.m SENATOR ELRIFAI had no comment. SENATOR DAYANI stated her sympathy for Director Nystrom. SENATOR QURESHI stated her deepest sympathy towards Director Nystrom. SENATOR TURNER had no comment. SENATOR CORNELISON stated that she appreciates everyone who voted for her. SENATOR M. MORADKHAN stated her heart goes out to Director Nystrom SENATOR GANNON stated that if you have attachments for the meeting please pass them out ahead of time, so that we don't have to read them during the meeting. SENATOR BRINK stated thanks for the position. I will do a good job for you. Also, Holly the Greek Gazette looks great. I will be bartending for Bertonelli's from 10 am to 2 pm on Wednesday in the Hotel College so please come over. And please spread the word and show your support for the Hotel College. SENATOR MURPHY stated that his condolescences to Director Nystom. Director Glancz is doing a great job. SENATOR MCLAUGHLIN stated her condolescences for Director Nystrom. And she hopes that everyone has a good week. And don't forget to come out and support the Hotel College. SENATE PRESIDENT PRO-TEMPORE DAVY stated that SENATOR QURESHI and DIRECTOR GLANCZ are doing a great job and that is why they are super stars of the week. I am sorry but I will be missing the meeting next week because of family events. I don't believe that we were lax on the notification of the scholarships for education, even if there was no due 11
