Congratulations are in order for the chapter and two of its members. Institute recently announced winners of its Annual awards to be presented at Construct in Nashville Tennessee at the Annual Meeting, 2:15 pm on September 27, 2013 at the Music City Center. The Oklahoma City Chapter garnered an Outstanding Chapter Commendation, its third in 3 years running. Only 14 of 140 plus chapters across the nation secured this award this year and the Oklahoma City Chapter was the only chapter from the South Central Region to be selected. Chapters must meet a long list of pre-requisites to even be considered and they must further meet a points total from other stretch goals to move them above and beyond the activities of normal chapters in providing service to their members. They also must exhibit exemplary organizational skills and structure. Congratulations to the board and member volunteers for leading the chapter to this See Triple Crown page 3 A special guest for the awards banquet was FY2013 South Central Region Institute membership committee liason Bruce Stone of Tulsa Chapter. President of the Region. Awards Banquet A Success! By Newsletter Reporter June Hilite Bruce will serve this year as Vice- Over 30 members and guest found their way to the Ran Ricks Room at Remington Park for an evening of great food, good CSI fellowship, a little attitude adjustment time, and festivities to honor those who work so hard making our chapter the outstanding chapter its award recognizes it to be. Many certificates of appreciation were distributed recognizing those critical to the success of our special events. Awards chair Aubree Hoover created special living awards to recognize recipients in a special way. M.C. President Tony Welch thanked all present for his opportunity to serve this last year and chaired the festivities in his normal (continued page 3 at Awards)

For a full list of award winners in all categories, go to The awards guide (link in Triple Crown) explains the criteria in each category of the various awards presented. The Institute s annual meeting occurs during Construct in September on Friday the 27 th from 2:15 to 4:00 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend the CSI Annual Meeting for a State of the Institute presentation highlighting key accomplishments and goals for the coming year and the presentation of several honors and awards. President Casey Robb will introduce and expound upon his goals and focus during his presidency tenure. DIVISION 27 COMMUNICATIONS Division 7 THERMAL AND MOISTURE PROTECTION OKC-CSI Member Rick Lueb (South Central Region Representative) has been appointed Vice-Chair of Institute s Annual Meeting Committee. Lane Beougher (Great Lakes Region) serves as Chair. Other members include B. Jori Smith (Southwest Region); Dick Eustis (Northeast Region); Mitch Lawrence (West Region); David Metzger (Middle Atlantic Region); Board Liaison: Kevin Corkern, Institute Secretary (Gulf States Region). The committee is designed as a panel of experts on bylaws, policy, and the Annual Meeting Regulations. Each member brings a particular strength to bear on issues at hand for the meeting. Together, they have the experience necessary to properly discharge duties focused on meeting content, resolutions, and proper conduct of the meeting. Deadline for resolutions to discuss at the meeting was June 29, 2013.

4 Page 4 July 2013 CONSPEC Lynsey Manning (now Hankins) found her little pot of gold at the June Awards Banquet. At normal meetings, only a single member name is drawn from a hat to see who would win the cash door prize. At the June Awards banquet, to allow the treasurer to close out the year, names are drawn until a winner present is selected. Lynsey was present after a few draws and therefore garnered the $75 to clean the door prize cache for next fiscal year. Coming to meetings pays in ways other than the great benefits of CSI! Triple Crown from Page 1 (Awards continued from page 1) good humor manner as one of his last official acts as president. See pictures of the event in the events section of the newsletter. Our next official chapter meeting is our September kickoff picnic to be announced. In July, the chapter will host a casual get-together at Belle Isle Brewery just so members can stay in touch through the summer. See the flyer appended to the newsletter. achievement. See page 36 of the awards guide for the extensive criteria required of your chapter to garner this award. Also garnering awards were chapter members and Rick Lueb. Melody won a Communications Award in the special communications category for her work on the publication pieces for the H.Y.P.E.D event, the initial year for this event. Rick Lueb won for this publication, the Conspec, in the continuing publications category. The Communication Awards are presented to a CSI Member, Chapter, Region or Group for outstanding effort in the communication of CSI related topics and activities. None of the awards would have been possible without the great work and dedication of Awards Chair Aubree Hoover who put together the submission dossiers. She is batting 100% for Institute Awards submissions, securing an award for each of the three submissions she has presented. Congratulations Aubree on your dedicated service to secure these awards for the chapter! President s Perspective? President Welch s train left the station and headed for the sunset. No wisdoms from incoming President Mike King just yet, but watch for a new train coming down the track!

5 Newsletter Page 5 Title July 2013 CONSPEC Page 5 The Board met June 24 at the offices of Scott Rice over lunch. Those attending the board meeting were President Tony Welch, VP Aubree Hoover, Treasurer Rick Lueb, Past President, Secretary Lynsey Hankins (Manning) and Directors Johnie Hamit; Boe Post, and Grant York. Absent were President-Elect Mike King, Julie Coffee, and Frances Johnson. Incoming Secretary Wendy Hudlow was a guest. BOARD BRIEFS Here are some highlights of the meeting: Minutes of the April Meeting were presented by Secretary Hankins. Approved as corrected. Rick Lueb noted that even though no quorum was present for the May meeting, minutes should still be recorded indicating no official business was conducted and to record those who were present. Secretary Hankins noted she would produce minutes accordingly. The Treasurer presented financial reports and a year-end budget projection. He also presented a proposed budget for review. Following comments by the board, he noted he will produce a final budget for approval by the new board at the July meeting. He noted the chapter is projected to finish the year $953 over budgeted expenses, nearly all due to the increased insurance premium costs which was a non-budgeted item (D&O Insurance rider as recommended by Institute) and some increased chapter meeting costs. Committee reports were given: o Grant York has volunteered to be new Advertising chair. o noted membership stands at 66 with 2 new members the result of the 50/50 membership drive at H.Y.P.E.D. 2. o Both the H.Y.P.E.D. 2 and Golf events reached income goals thanks to the dedicated work of the committees. o Awards: A number of individuals were recommended for consideration of Fellowship:, John Vas, and Norm Foster were mentioned. Old Business was discussed. The board unanimously voted to increase the Secretary term from one year to two years to align with Institute and Region guidelines. Term will be staggered from the Treasurer. The bylaws committee will work to implement this revision for voting of a bylaws change by the full membership. New Business: Program ideas for the upcoming year were discussed and could include tours, public policy updates, a forum on substitutions, and others. A discussion on a Storm Relief Donation was tabled until July while board members consider the mechanism required to do such. The next board meeting was set for July 29 at the new Nabholz building. July 15 will be a chapter happy hour gathering at Belle Isle Brewery. September 16 will be the next official chapter meeting with the membership picnic at the OKC Boat Club. An August Social Event may be scheduled.

7 Newsletter Page 7 Title July 2013 CONSPEC Page 7 REGION NEWS: One of the difficulties facing the Regions of CSI are how they are funded. Many large territory regions like the South Central Region have found it difficult to provide the member and chapter support services needed on the stringient budget that must be dealt with under the new governance structure of Institute allocations. In years past, each chapter of the region was assessed an amount to fund the region and assessments were set to cover region operating expenses. For the first time in three years, the region has found it necessary to assess each chapter an amount equal to $5 per chapter member to replenish drained reserves used to cover the Institute allocation shortfall. An Adhoc Committee of representatives from all regions has been formed to review and consider aspects of region structure and funding mechanisms. Region President Holly Jordan of Houston Chapter and Robert Popp of Ft. Worth Chapter will represent our region on this committee. The committee is tasked with presenting a resolution to the Institute Board at its September Meeting. If you have creative notions on funding mechanisms, please get your ideas to (mas@rees.com) who currently serves as President-Elect of our region. She will act as the liason to Holly for input from our chapter. The Gulf States Region invites all South Central Region members to attend a special event at Construct. See the flyer attached to the newsletter for particulars and costs. For more information on region activities, contact Region Newsletter Editor Kirby Davis. Kirby can be contacted at kirbycsi@gmail.com. South Central Region Chapters and coverage.

8 Page 8 July 2013 CONSPEC Our good friend and CSI supporter Melissa Hunt, Executive Director of the American Institute of Architects, Oklahoma City Chapter, has been honored by the Oklahoma Society of Association Executives (OSAE) as their "2013 Association Professional of the Year". Melissa is always supportive when we suggest a joint AIA / CSI function and has been the cog many times that makes a joint event so successful, such as the Bid Forum we did in the past. The award will be presented at the OSAE annual convention on Monday, July 8, 2013, during the 50th Anniversary Gala at the Tulsa Hyatt Regency. Mel has been the local AIA chapter executive director since The award recognizes outstanding accomplishments in association management, as well as significant contributions to the association community. Congratulations to Melissa and thank you for your partnerships for success with OKC / CSI. Thank you to the following member for renewing his membership: Charles Heffner of Oklahoma City.
