2 Travel is among the top 10 industries in 49 states and D.C. in terms of employment U.S. residents logged million person-trips* for business purposes in 2017, with 38% for meetings and events. International travel spending directly supported about 1.2 million U.S. jobs and $33.7 billion in wages Every 1% change in business travel spending, the US economy gains or loses 74,000 jobs, $5.5 billion in GDP, $3.3 billion in wages, and $1.3 billion in taxes
3 We need policies. The business travel industry is a critical driver Policies do impact travel
4 Promote the interest of the business traveler and the organization through advocacy on legislative issues and other government relations initiatives designed to maintain a transparent, competitive and frictionless business travel community
5 Review, Research and make recommendations on legislation and policies that impact the business travel community and help determine GBTA s legislative action
6 Champion Rules of the Road for Optimizing Business Travel Inform all of legislative priorities To educate and communicate legislative initiatives To act on all legislative policies deemed appropriated by the Board or Director of GBTA
7 Invite an elected official to speak at a Chapter meeting or host a Government Relations focused meeting with a representative from GBTA Appoint a liaison to the GBTA Government Relations Committee Fundraise for the Business Travel PAC! Achieve a minimum of 30% of Chapter members contributing PAC donations
