10 H.R. 2997, the 21 st Century AIRR Act H.R. 2997, the 21 st Century AIRR Act would reauthorize funding for the Federal Aviation Administration and shift operations of our nation s Air Traffic Control out of the federal government and into a not-for-profit entity. This entity would be governed by a 13 member board and be funded by user fees assessed on commercial and cargo carriers. GBTA was not supportive of last year s version of this bill. Our concerns were: Commercial airlines had four seats on the board; Lack of transparency regarding the user fee; and NO budget #21AIRRACT 2017 GBTA. All rights reserved. 10

12 What is the REAL ID Act? The 2005 REAL ID Act prohibits federal agencies from accepting driver s licenses and state issued identification cards that do not meet certain standards set by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). 16 Real ID - Important Dates Starting January 22, 2018, travelers with a driver s license issued by a state that is still not compliant with the REAL ID Act (and has not been granted an extension) will need to show an alternative form of acceptable identification for domestic air travel to board their flight. NEW DATE: The January 22, 2018 deadline is also the end of the grace period the time between the end of the recent October extension and the date of enforcement of REAL ID at airports. Starting October 1, 2020, travelers will need to present a compliant driver s license (a driver s license that meets the REAL ID standards) or any of the various other forms of identification accepted by TSA (Passport or Passport Card, Global Entry cards, U.S. military IDs, airline or airport-issued IDs, federally recognized, and tribal-issued photo IDs.
