Prayer was offered by Dr. Stephen Swisher, Etna United Methodist Church in Etna, Ohio, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. The journal of the last legislative day was read and approved. The following guests were recognized by the Senate prior to the commencement of business: Senator Beagle recognized the Trotwood-Madison High School football team on winning the 2017 Division III State Championship. Senator Peterson recognized Brad Cole on his retirement. Senator Bacon requested a moment of silence in memory of Westerville Police Officers Eric Joering and Anthony Morelli, who were killed in the line of duty. Senator Manning requested a moment of silence in memory of the victims from Parkland, Florida.
