Recommendation for Council action, as recommended by the Municipal Facilities Committee: AUTHORIZE the epartment of General Services (GS) to negotiate and execute a l~ase. agreement for the Chatsworth Courthouse at 9425 Penfield -Avenue, Chatsworth, under the terms and CO?Jditions substantially as contained in the GS report dated June 15, Fiscal Imoact Statement: The GS reports that funding is not requested at this time. Upon Council approval of the project, the GS will submit a budget request in the Fiscal Year budget for this purpose. Summary: In 1989, the County of Los Angeles proposed tiuilding two new area courthouses, one near LAX to replace the West Los Angeles Municipal Court and a second in the Valley. In.ecember 1999, the Airport area courthouse, located at La.Cienega Boulevard was opened. GS negotiated a ten~year lease with the County for approximately 9,200 square feet at that location. The Chatsworth Courthouse, located at 9245 Penfield Avenue, will be completed no later than August Tpe county has built out space for City Attorney's use without- any forma_l commitment from tpe City to lease the space. Currently, the City'Attorney is preparing a staffing plan to meet the courtroom staffing requirements for the Chatsworth Courthouse. For maximum operational efficiency including security and convenience to its clients, the City Attorney has requested that GS negotiate with the County to occupy space with.in the Chatsw:orttj Courthouse. The Municipal.Facilities Committee, at its June 15, 2000 meeting, approved the lease agreement.
