1 Alpha Phi Omega Nu Epsilon By-Laws -,s 31'1 * * * * * * * * * * * * Preamble Article I: Name Article II: Purpose Article Ill: Membership Article IV: Pledging Article V: Officers Article VI: Nominations, Elections, and Appointments Article VII: Meetings Article VIII: Executive Committee Article IX: Advisory Committee Article X: Chapter Committees Article XI: Checks and Balances Article XII: Voting Article XIII: Dues, Fees, and Assessments Article XIV: Policies of the Chapter Article XV: Standard Policy of Risk Management Article XVI: Amendments -PREAMBLE We the students of the Nu Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, an international Co-ed Service Fraternity, chartered on the campus of Georgia Southern University, and established for the purpose of assembling college students in the fellowship and principles of Alpha Phi Omega to develop Leadership, to promote Friendship, to provide Service to humanity, and to further the freedom that is out national, educational, and intellectual heritage, do adopt these Standard Chapter Articles of Association. The rich heritage of Alpha Phi Omega is derived from the fellowship of the principles of the Boy Scouts of America as embodied in the Scout Oath and Law. Article I Name The name of this organization is the Nu Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega.

4 (H) Members in good standing with the Chapter shall have an adjusted grade point average of 2.5. Any member not having a 2.5 adjusted grade point average shall be placed in Arrears status as defined in Section 8. All Active members shall sign a permission card giving the Chapter the right t check their grade point average. Section 4-ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP. Associate membership may be conferred on an active member who finds it necessary to cease full involvement on Chapter affairs because of other commitments of time and effort, and who petitions in writing the Membership Committee for such membership. These petitions shall be kept on permanent file. (A) Associate members shall have no voting power, and may not hold office. They may, however, attend service projects and social functions. Associate members may attend brother's meetings and may voice opinions during sessions. (B) Associate members shall have no unexcused absences from rush functions, the pledge induction, and the brother initiation ceremony held during the appropriate semester. See Article Ill, Section 3, Subsection A for explanation of excused absences. (C) Any Associate member may regain Active Status by presentation of notice to the Vice-President of Membership and payment of dues in full. (D) An Associate member shall participate in no less than seven (7) hours of Official Fraternity service projects. An Associate member not meeting this requirement shall be place in Arrears status for the following semester, until such time as they complete the seven (7) hours of service from the previous semester. (E) Grade Point Average - See Article Ill, Section 3, Subsection H. Section 5 -ADVISORY MEMBERSHIP. Advisory membership may be conferred upon persons approved by the Chapter to serve on the Advisory Committee, who shall have all rights and privileges of Associate Membership, other than Chairman on the Advisory Committee. Such membership may not be conferred upon undergraduate students. Section 6- HONORARY MEMBERSHIP. Honorary membership may be conferred upon persons who have contributed significantly to the ideals and purposes of Alpha Phi Omega. Persons so honored shall have all rights and privileges of Associate membership. Honorary Chapter membership may not be bestowed upon undergraduate students. The approval by a vote of at least three-fourths (3/4) vote of the Chapter's Active membership shall be required for the conferring of Honorary Chapter membership.

A pledge candidate must be a full time student of Georgia Southern University with a minimum adjusted grade point average of 2.5 The pledge candidate must, during rush. sign a permission card giving Alpha Phi Omega the right to check to see if the candidate has an adjusted grade point average of 2.5. (B) At the meeting following rush, the Vice- President of membership will bring forth the motion that the candidate be approved for pledgeship. This motion must be approved by seventy-five percent (75%) of the Active brothers present. The vote may be taken by secret ballot if at least ten percent (10%) of the Active brothers request it. (C) Anti-Discrimination Clause: Alpha Phi Omega will not discriminate against any otherwise qualified individual on the basis of race, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, national origin, religion, age, veteran status, political affiliation, or disability. (D) If a candidate is approved by the Chapter for pledgeship, two (2) or more of the brothers shall make personal contact with the candidate that night to extend an invitation to pledge Alpha Phi Omega. At that time if the candidate accepts the invitation to pledge, the brothers shall inform the candidate when the pledge induction is and of the first pledge fee so that the pledge can pay this prior to the induction. (E) Each pledge candidate must be installed according to the prescribed ritual of the National Fraternity in order to become a pledge. Section 2 - BIG BROTHERS. The Membership Committee shall identify a pool of big brother candidates from the Active members of the Chapter. From this pool, the Vice-President of membership shall assign a big brother for each pledge. In identifying your pool and making the assignments, the primary consideration will be each brother's degree of Activity within the Chapter, as evidence by his/her contributions to and participation in the Chapter's Leadership, Friendship, and Service programs. Other factors that may be considered include the length of time the brother has been active in the chapter, the length of time the brother will be at Georgia Southern University, and the number of little brothers the brother has had. Also, in matching a brother with a pledge, the number of common interests the brother and pledge share may be considered. Big brothers will be chosen by the night of pledge induction. Each brother will be expected to: (A) Make initial contact with their little brother. (B) Oversee and advise their little brother during the pledge period. (C) Attend as many pledge class meetings, projects, and functions as possible, so as to be fully aware of the little brother's activities and progress.

An interesting Fact About Themselves Section 4 - PLEDGE VOTES. (A) Halfway through the pledge period, each pledge must receive at least seventy-five percent (75%) of the active brothers vote in order to determine how each pledge stands in the Chapter. This will be a secret ballot vote. All brothers are required to attend. "Maybes" and abstentions are not allowed. One week before brother initiation a final vote will be conducted to confirm initiation as a brother. A pledge must receive at least seventy-five (75%) of the Active brothers' votes. In order to be initiated into the Chapter, the pledge must complete all the pledge requirements as outlined in Section 3. The pledge must also have passed the brother vote during the pledge period. All pledges meeting the requirements for Active membership shall be initiated according to the Official Ritual of the National Fraternity. Pledges must attend the initiation ceremony in the semester that they pledged, unless excused by the Executive Committee. Pledges failing to meet this requirement must repledge at a later date. Section 6 - HAZING. There shall be no hazing or informal initiation in connection with the functions of the Chapter. Any mistreatment of pledges. members, or other persons at any time shall be considered a violation of the purpose of the Chapter and of the national Fraternity. 6.1: This Organization will not initiate, participate in, or be witness to any act that inflicts or intends to inflict physical or mental harm or discomfort of which may demean, disgrace, or degrade any person, regardless of location, intent, or consent of participant(s). Hazing is defined in the Georgia Southern University Student Conduct Code as: an act which endangers the emotional, mental, or physical health or safety of a student, with or without their expressed permission, or which destroys or removes public or private property, for the purpose of initiating, admission into, affiliation with, or as a condition for continues membership in a group or organization. Hazing includes acts that are intended to or actually cause physical discomfort, embarrassment and/or ridicule of another person for the purposes mentioned above or are violations of the Student Conduct Code. Section 7 - NO NON-MEMBERS. All pledge functions shall be closed to non-members of Alpha Phi Omega. Such functions are defined as, but not limited to: pledge initiation, and the initiation party sponsored by the

11 Fraternity. The Vice-President of Membership, along with the Membership Committee, shall determine what is or is not an official class function. Article V Officers Section 1 - ELECTED OFFICERS. The elected officers in this Chapter, in order of succession, shall be: President, Vice-President of Service, Vice President of Membership, Vice-President of Fellowship, Treasurer, Secretary, Historian, and Sergeant - At- Arms. Section 2 - TERMS OF OFFICE. The officers of this Chapter shall be elected annually on the second to last meeting Spring semester with the exception of Vice-President of Membership, who shall be elected semi-annually on the second to last meeting of each semester. The old officers shall train the new officers for a period of one week. Then the new officers shall take over. One office may not be held more than twice by a brother. Section 3 - QUALIFICATIONS. Only an Active member that has a 2.5 GPA and is in good standing may serve as a Chapter officer. No officer shall be elected to serve as President, Vice-President of Service, Vice-President of Membership, Vice President of Fellowship, or Treasurer within the first semester of Active membership after having pledged. At the last scheduled meeting of the semester, all officers must be installed by the prescribed Ritual of the National Fraternity. Section 4 - IMPEACHMENT. Elected officers may be impeached for misconduct or malfeasance in office. It must pass by two-thirds of the members of the Chapter. Section VACANCIES OF OFFICE. In the case of removal or resignation of a Chapter officer except for the office of president, the Chapter shall elect a replacement at the regular Chapter meeting immediately following the creation of the vacancy. Nominations and elections for the vacant office shall be performed at the same meeting. In the case of removal or resignation of the President, the Vice-President of Service shall perform presidential duties. Any officer taking over an office due to removal or resignation will not be counted as part of the two (2) term limit as prescribed in Article V, Section 2. Section 6 - CHAPTER DELEGATES. This Chapter shall elect such delegates to the National Convention and to other representative bodies of this Fraternity as it is entitled.

22 for that term and shall make recommendations to the respective committees related to these projects. (E) The Executive Committee shall review the written reports of all projects of the Chapter as presented by the chainnen of the committees, analyze the past projects of the Chapter, weigh their value, an determine the advisability of their continuance. After review, all written reports are to be relinquished to the Historian for placement in the Chapter archives. ( F) The Executive Committee shall analyze any particular problems of the Chapter pertaining to the programs or administration and plan for their solution. (G) The Executive Committee shall. at regular intervals, check on the program and projects of the Chapter. Article IX Advisory Committee Our Chapter Advisor for the school year is Tyrone McBride. Section 1 -The Chapter Advisors and the Chapter President shall constitute the Advisory Committee of the Chapter. The Chapter shall elect the chairman during the regular Chapter elections. Section 2 -The Advisory Committee shall meet at least three (3) times per semester for the purpose of discussing and planning the chapter program and administration. Section 3 - The Advisory Committee shall give leadership to get the program of the Chapter under way at the beginning of the school year. Article X Chapter Committees Section 1 - Committee members are expected to attend any committee meeting that is called at least three (3) days (72 hours) prior to the committee meeting. Any member who accumulates more than two (2) unexcused absences from committee meetings will no longer be considered Active on that committee. Each committee chairman will define an excused absence for his or her committee. Activity on a committee is a requirement for Active membership.

(A) See Article VI, Section 2, Subsections A and B. Section 4 - COUNTING OF VOTES. (A) See Article V, Section 8, Subsections H-6 and H-8. Article XIII Dues, Fees, and Assessments The Bank account for the Nu Epsilon Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity is BB&T. Section 1 -Each person becoming an Active pledge of this Chapter shall be required to pay a non-refundable pledge fee of sixty dollars ($80) during their pledge process. These fess will be broken up into three (3) installments: (A) A ten dollar ($20) National pledge fee. (B) (C) A twenty-five dollar ($25) Chapter dues/pledge fee. A twenty-five dollar ($35) National initiation fee. Due dates of these installments will be decided by the vice-president of Membership of that pledge class. Section 2 - The Chapter dues for Active membership in this Chapter shall be eighty dollars ($80), which will be paid in two (2) parts: Fall and Spring Semesters consisting of forty dollars ($40) each semester. The Chapter dues for Associate membership in this chapter shall be twenty dollars ($20) per semester upon status approval by the Membership Committee.
