1 Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society, Omega Delta Chapter September 18 th, 2017 Article I RSO Name Section 1. The name of this student organization shall be Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society, Omega Delta Chapter. It may be referred to as Tribeta. Article II Purpose & Mission Section 1 The purpose of the Tribeta shall be: a. To improve the understanding and appreciation of biological study under the policies, principles, and provisions set forth by the National Constitution and this chapter s Constitution. b. To give talks, listen to lectures, observe demonstrations and lectures by outside speakers, and undertake various chapter projects. c. To plan the kinds of activities that the chapter feels will be most valuable to ourselves, to the department and school, and to the community. d. To be conducted as an honor society for students, particularly undergraduate students. Section 2 The mission of Tribeta The mission of the Omega Delta chapter of Beta Beta Beta National Biological Honor Society, chartered on the campus of Saint Xavier University, is to stimulate interest, scholarly attainment, investigation, and awareness of the biological sciences. Article III Membership Section 1 Members: a. The members of this organization shall be currently enrolled at the Saint Xavier University. b. They become members by application. c. There are two membership categories: Associate and Full a. Associate Membership i. Student can major in any discipline; ii. Must complete one introductory biology course (Biology 111 or 112) with a final grade of B or higher; iii. Be inducted freshman year, or in the case of transfer students, junior year; iv. Attend each mandatory monthly meeting; v. Participate in three events each semester; vi. Mandatory attendance to our annual induction ceremony; vii. NOTE: Associate members are not allowed to wear Tribeta insignia and are not eligible to receive honor cords for graduation.

2 Section 2 b. Full Membership i. Must be a biology major (Biochemistry and Natural Science are listed under the Chemistry department and do not count as a biology major.); ii. Must attend each mandatory monthly meeting; iii. Must participate in two events and organize 1 event (or participate in the planning of 1 event) each semester; 1. If the member is a research student, they must participate in 2 events each semester; iv. Maintain a B average in biology courses and a B average in all other courses; v. Mandatory attendance to our annual induction ceremony. vi. NOTE: Only full members are allowed to wear Tribeta insignia and receive honor cords for graduation. c. Transcripts must be provided each semester to remain a full member. If GPA falls below3.0 at any period, the member will be placed on probation until GPA requirement is met. If it is not met by the final semester of senior year, graduation cords will not be given. d. Seniors who have no previous membership status cannot be inducted as an associate or full member. Privileges of Membership: a. Voting: Each member is entitled to one vote. b. Privileges: Each member shall be entitled to all services of the organization. c. Participation: Each member shall be entitled to participate in all organizational events.

3 Article IV Officers Section 1 The officers of the organization shall be full, active members in good standing. Officers include: a. President b. Vice President c. Secretary d. Treasurer e. Historian Section 2 Duties and powers: a. The duties of the president shall be: a. To preside over all meetings of the chapter as well as board meetings; b. To be responsible for scheduling all chapter meetings; c. To conduct revision of the chapter constitution every three years or whenever deemed fit by executive officers; d. To update the executive board contact information each year. b. The duties of the vice president shall be: a. To serve in the absence of the president; b. To manage committee activity; c. To assist in conducting a revision of the chapter constitution every three years or whenever deemed fit by the executive officers. c. The duties of the secretary shall be: a. To keep minutes of all board meetings and chapter meetings; b. To keep attendance records of chapter meetings and all other records excluding financial; c. To check the grades of each active member once a semester to be reported to the chapter adviser; d. To answer all correspondence promptly; e. To inform the chapter of any new announcements in any form including, but not limited to, posters, s, and messages on The Den. d. The duties of the treasurer shall be: a. To keep a record of all chapter funds; b. To be responsible to collecting fees and dealing with financial matters. e. The duties of the historian shall be: a. To deal with all matters regarding the chapter history; b. To complete the chapter history book to be submitted for the national Chapter History Award.

4 Section 3 Qualifications for and Election of officers: a. The officers shall be elected each spring semester to allow time to prepare for program and budget planning, revise the constitution as needed, and prepare registration materials for the coming academic year. b. Prospective officers must be full, active members in good standing, with preference to students who will be seniors. c. The candidate shall be self-nominated. d. A simple majority of all votes cast shall be necessary for election. e. Following each election or change of any officer/advisor, the Department of Campus Life will be notified in writing. Section 4 The term of office for the officers shall be from May 15 th of the academic year to May 14 th of the following year. Section 5 Vacancies a. A vacancy in the office of President shall be filled by the Vice President unless he or she is unable to serve, at which time the vacancy shall be filled by election of the members by a majority of votes cast. A vacancy in the office of the Vice President shall be left vacant with the President delegating the duties of that position. b. Any officer, including the President, may be removed from office or suspended from office by a vote of two-thirds of the members at a regular meeting. The person under consideration shall be given an opportunity to be heard at the meeting with sufficient notice of the proposed removal or suspension, the person under consideration shall not be counted in determining the presence of a quorum not whether the required two-thirds vote has been obtained. Upon a vote of removal or suspension of the President, the Vice President shall preside at the meeting. Article V Executive Board Section 1 The Executive Board shall consist of the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Historian, and Advisor. Section 2 All executive and legislative power granted herein shall be vested in the Executive Board. Section 3 The Executive Board shall be empowered to recommend priorities for various projects and plan activities.

5 Article VI Advisor Section 1 The organization shall appoint an individual employed as a faculty or staff member by Saint Xavier University to serve as the university advisor to this organization. Advisors shall serve on an academic year basis or until their successor has been selected. The current advisor for the Omega Delta chapter of Tribeta is Nadia Kivenas. Article VII Meetings Section 1 The business meetings of the membership will be held once a month. Notification of this meeting shall be made one week or more prior to said meeting. Article VIII Amendments Section 1 Proposed amendments shall be submitted in writing and read at a regular meeting, and shall be acted upon at the following meeting. Section 2 meeting. This constitution may be amended by a majority of two-thirds (2/3) of those at the Article IX Anti-Hazing Statement Beta Beta Beta National Biological Society considers hazing to be a most destructive and degrading activity which is inconsistent with the standards of this student organization. We recognize the dignity of every individual and oppose all forms of hazing. Article XI Non-Discrimination Statement Beta Beta Beta National Biological Society admits students without regard to race, religion, color, sex, age, sexual orientation, ability, veteran status, national or ethnic origin, or citizenship status to all the rights, privileges, programs, and other activities generally accorded to and made available to members of the organization.
