Dates to Remember Election Judge Training March 26 June 21, 2018 Early Voting June 14 June 21, 2018 Election Day Chief Judge Supply Pickup June 25, 2018 Setup at Your Polling Place June 25, 2018 Primary Election Day! June 26, 2018 Contact Information: Election Worker Department Phone: (410) "Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability." - Sam Keen The Who, What, and Where of Electioneering and Exit Polling: If you work during Early Voting or on Election Day, you are probably going to have people in the parking lot who are electioneers. The definition of electioneering is campaigning for or against a candidate or ballot issue. Remember it s not electioneering if a voter wears campaign buttons, t-shirts, or stickers when voting. After voting, however, the voter must immediately leave the early voting center or polling place. Electioneers are allowed at each early voting center or polling location, as long as they stay outside of the 100ft No Electioneering Zone. You will have No Electioneering Zone signs, a 100 foot length of rope, and a diagram of where the 100ft limit is in your supplies. Almost anyone can electioneer, except Election Judges, Challengers and Watchers, and anyone within the marked No Electioneering Zone. Exit pollers are accredited individuals who ask voters who they voted for, after they have voted. An individual can conduct exit polls as long as the person: Is outside of the voting room. Does not ask questions until voters have left the voting room. Tells voters that answering questions is voluntary. Is not electioneering and therefore can be within the 100 foot No Electioneering Zone.
Important Remider for Chief Judges Remember to bring your personal cell phone with you on Election Day. Our office will send you text messages on Election Day and we appreciate your response. Text Messages from our office will begin with AACO. You can expect us to text you in the morning to ask if your polling place will be open by 7:00 a.m. (Remember, as long as you have your voting unit and one electronic pollbook ready by 7:00 a.m., you can open for voting.) We will also send text message reminders about closing, if there are any emergency announcements, and if there are extended voting hours. To: Message: AACO Election Judge Training Thank you to everyone who has already attended or scheduled your Election Judge training class. We appreciate your effort and hope you re ready for Election Day. If you feel like you need to brush up on some of your skills before Election Day, please attend one of our Election Judge Open Houses or call our office at to schedule additional training. Watch your s for the open house schedule! Hands-on training for the Gubernatorial Election cycle is mandatory by law for all Election Judges, regardless of whether they worked in previous elections. Training classes started March 26th and are ongoing. If you haven t already scheduled your training, we are fast approaching Election Day, so time is running out. Please schedule your training as soon as possible! Thank you for your cooperation. 2
Working on outside of your home polling place on Election Day? If you re working outside of your home polling place on Election Day, remember to vote Early! Starting June 14th and continuing until June 21st, including Saturday and Sunday, Anne Arundel County will have seven early voting sites ready for voters, including three new locations! Come vote between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. at any of the following locations: Odenton Regional Library 1325 Annapolis Road, Odenton, MD NEW!!! Crofton Community Library 1681 Riedel Road, Crofton MD Glen Burnie Regional Library 1010 Eastway, Glen Burnie, MD NEW!!! Anne Arundel County Board of Elections Office 6740 Baymeadow Drive, Glen Burnie, MD Severna Park Community Library 45 W. McKinsey Road, Severna Park, MD NEW!!! Roger Pip Moyer Recreation Center 273 Hilltop Lane, Annapolis, MD Attention all Parents or Guardians! Does your teen know their Social Security Number? If not, it will hinder them from completing their Voter Registration Application. When filling out the Voter Registration application, all new voters must included their SSN, The voter registration verification process is slower without this information. Help your new voter by ensuring that they know this important information. It s not to late. Do you know someone that would like to be a Floater Judge? Direct them to to fill out an Election Judge application. 3
Important Information High School Students: 16 year olds are now eligible to register to vote, work as an Election Judge, and receive payment; sign up TODAY! Address & Party Changes: The deadline to change or update your name, address or party affiliation was Tuesday, June 5, Please keep your voter registration and contact information current. Phone numbers and addresses will only be released to the Chief Judges for election related use. If you need to change your address, you may still do so at any of our seven early voting sites during Early Voting. Early Voting: For the Gubernatorial Primary Election, Early Voting dates and hours are as follows: Thursday, June 14 through Thursday, June 21, 2018; from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm each day, including Sunday. Election Judges will need to arrive at their assigned Early Voting site by 9:00 am each day and will be dismissed after all closing procedures for the day have been completed. Election Judge Payment Payment checks for the June 26th Primary will be mailed to election judges who attend training and work the election. Checks will be mailed six to eight weeks after each election. 4
Staying Energized and Focused on Election Day Eat and Exercise your way to All-Day Productivity One of the best ways to keep your energy up is to get up and stretch, take a short walk around the room. Whatever you do, try not to sit for the length of the day. Not only is it not a good idea to spend too much time sitting, it can impact you physically. So get up, and do some small stretches, it doesn t have to be for more than 5 to 10 minutes, just to keep the blood moving. You know you don t do your best work when you re feeling famished. Tips for healthy snacking: Plan ahead. You re more likely to reach for healthy, brain-boosting snacks if you have them readily accessible, so make sure your well-stocked. Stash snacks like trail mix, chocolate, and oatmeal in your bag, so you ll have easy access if you start feeling puckish. The Best Snacks you can keep on hand: Peanut Butter and Pretzel Sticks Fruit and Nut Granola Hard-Boiled Eggs On-The-Go Trail Mix (recipe below); 1 1/2 cup mixed dried fruit, such as cranberries, apricots, cherries, raisins, and apples 1/2 cup candy coated chocolate 1 cup pecans and/or pretzels In a medium bowl, combine dried fruit, pecans and chocolate. To ensure good health: eat lightly, breathe deeply, live moderately, cultivate cheerfulness, and maintain an interest in life. William Londen. 5
