I attended an event, hosted by UNA Luxembourg, to honor the numerous accomplishments of our founding UNAs and we launched the WFUNA 70 Global Citizenship Challenge campaign, reaching over 13 million people on social media who shared photos of their acts of daily global citizenship. Advanced Training Program, New York January 2016 Bonian Golmohammadi,, 2016 UN General Assembly Thank you to our donors The celebrations continued around the world as we partnered with Music for One and the UN Orchestra in Geneva for a concert tour entitled Music for Peace held in Seoul, Gwangju, and Busan, South Korea for a total audience of over 12,000 people. We made sure to pay tribute to the accomplishments of our global network of Associations over the last 70 years many times throughout 2016, because we know they will be there to take us through the next several decades as well. 4 After this workshop I understand what it means to be a global citizen and the importance of implementing the SDGs by 2030 Mission Possible Workshop, Yerevan September 2016 Impact Impact Our work with Member States, UN agencies, governments, civil society organizations, and global citizens is helping to create a stronger and a better world for all. Here are some examples from our areas of influence: TRANSPARENCY AT THE UN CIVIL SOCIETY WORKING TOWARDS THE SDGS GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP AROUND THE WORLD MEANINGFUL YOUTH ENGAGEMENT AT THE UN As part of our mandate to strengthen the UN, we implement initiatives that increase the transparency of established UN processes. In May, we hosted the first ever Security Council Election Debates for candidates of non-permanent seats allowing the UN community and civil society insight into the platforms that the candidates put forward. In June, we held dialogues with the candidates for the next President of the UN General Assembly where candidates gave opening statements and answered live questions from member states and civil society. In support of the 1 for 7 Billion Campaign, which UNA-UK was very active in, that advocated for an open selection process for the next, we published an op-ed as well as a globally-used graphic that publicly released the results of each Security Council Straw Poll. After the campaign for Next SG resulted in the selection of H.E. Antonio Guterres, we released a statement from our Executive Committee and a staff video describing the ways we hope H.E. Guterres term in office will uphold his campaign promises. We believe that peoples involvement in local, national and global decision-making is essential to achieving the UN s goals, so we ensure that civil society are involved in UN programs and events. For more visit www. wfuna.org/our-work. We launched the 16+ Forum in partnership with Member State champions from the Permanent Missions of the Czech Republic, Denmark, Guatemala, Sierra Lione, Sweden, the Republic of Korea, Timor-Leste, and Tunisia. The 16+ Forum convenes Member States, civil society, UN agencies and other multi-stakeholders to share initiatives, best practices, connect silos, and raise awareness of SDG 16 activities. During the opening of the 71st UN General Assembly, we hosted a meeting with the members of the 16+ Forum, including high-level representatives from the Czech Republic, Denmark, Guatemala, the Republic of Korea, Sweden and Tunisia. Our was invited to speak on SDG implementation and SDG 16 at the first UN High Level Political Forum, which monitors the global progress of the SDGs. There was a strong call for more civil society participation, which we formally supported in a letter, cosigned with 237 others, to the President of ECOSOC. In partnership with Future Forest and the UN Convention to Combat Desertification, we held an exhibition at UN Headquarters in New York as a part of our Save the Earth Campaign, which aims to raise awareness of Desertification, Land Degradation and Drought. The exhibition reached an estimated 40,000 people and H.E. Ban Ki Moon spoke at the opening reception on the importance of protecting the earth. As global citizenship is at the heart of our mission, we facilitate regular programs that foster critical-thinking and problem-solving, and empower people to act in their communities. For more visit Since the launch of our WFUNA Youth Camps in 2013, over 900 elementary, middle, and high school students have been trained on various skills such as negotiation, resolution writing, and the structure and composition of a UN General Assembly session. The 1st Mission Possible international conference was held at the UN in New York for students from schools in Hyderabad who participated in the first year of Mission Possible and completed projects on reducing water waste and promoting literacy. Mission Possible was launched in Armenia for 120 students who will become Agents of Change in working towards achieving the SDGs in their communities. WFUNA s inaugural regional Model UN conference took place in India for over 200 high school and university delegates from 8 countries who worked on the theme The 2030 Agenda for Change. The 1st UN4MUN Workshop was held in New York for students from 22 countries and 5 continents, providing participants with experience in negotiation and debate. Our Training Programs at the UN, designed to promote the effective participation of youth in the UN s work, were offered for the first time at the UN in Vienna. Three groups were also hosted at the UN in Geneva, six were hosted at the UN in New York. As a part of the Save the Earth Campaign, 25 middle school and high school students and 18 staff participated in the Junior Green Corps Desert Camp in China, where they held a model UN conference and planted trees in the Kabuki desert. We believe that youth have the power to be significant agents of change, so we host and attend events and programs that put them at the forefront of implementation. For more visit We celebrated International Youth Day on a Google Hangout with young leaders from UNA Malaysia, UNA Mexico, UNA Uganda and the WFUNA Youth Advisory Council who spoke about how they are bringing the UN closer to young people around the world. We launched the WFUNA Young Leader of 2016 campaign, seeking youth from UNAs or UN Youth Associations working to promote just, peaceful and inclusive societies. In partnership with UNA-Malaysia we held the WFUNA Youth Seminar in Kuala Lumpur for 60 young representatives of UNAs and United Nations Youth Associations from around the world to devise strategies to support the implementation of Sustainable Goal 16. We became active members of the UN Inter-Agency Working Group on Youth and Peacebuilding, co-chairing the Advocacy and Lobbying Taskforce and actively engaging Youth networks to promote an inclusive approach. Every year, the Youth Delegates to the UN come to NYC during the UN General Assembly. This year over 70 delegates from 35 countries attended. Our met with them for our annual meet-and-greet to strategize on how to expand to more countries.
