1 Volume 10, Issue 1 Winter 2017 Chatham County Voter Registration Voter Registration Forum Letter from the Director Inside this issue: Director s Letter General Election Recap Mrs. Sandra s Retirement After a busy fall election season, the Voter Registration office is currently preparing for elections that will take place on November 7, 2017 for the municipalities of Bloomingdale, Garden City, Pooler, Port Wentworth, Thunderbolt, Tybee Island and Vernonburg. The voter registration deadline for these elections is coming up on October 10, The Voter Registration office is here to support you as you exercise your right to cast your vote. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns that you may have. Meet the Director 3 Board Member Spotlight: Randy Slay 4 Holiday Party 5 Voter Statistics Contact/Registrar Training Info General Election Recap 35,892 persons voted in person during Early Voting and 5,259 voted by mail ballots were returned and counted. The turnout for the 2016 General Election was 73.10%, slightly higher than the turnout of 72.57% in 2012 but lower than the turnout of 78.98% in 2008.

2 Voter Registration Forum Page 2 Mrs. Sandra Williams retired in June 2016 as Voter Registration Director after 39 years of service to Chatham County. The office staff, Mrs. Sandra s friends and members of our Board bid her farewell with a party at the Voter Registration office.

3 Voter Registration Forum Page 3 Meet the Director: Miss Sabrina German Sabrina German was named the Director of Voter Registration on December 28th, Ms. German started her tenure with the Voter Registration office on October 21, 1996 as the Absentee Ballot Clerk. She is a certified Georgia Voter Registration Official and holds a B.S. in Business Management from South Carolina State University as well as an M.S. in Management Leadership from Webster University. Ms. German has also achieved certification as a Team Leader and earned the Local Government Management Development certificate from the University of Georgia. She is a member of several civic organizations. Ms. German s vision for Voter Registration is to ensure that the highest quality of customer service is provided to the voters of Chatham County; all elections are held freely, fairly and securely; and that all laws and regulations pertaining to the conduct of elections in Chatham County are properly enforced.

4 Voter Registration Forum Page 4 Board Member Spotlight: Mr. Randolph L. Slay Randolph L. Slay served twenty years in the U.S. Army working in personnel management/human resources. He completed foreign service tours of duty in Vietnam, Korea, and Panama. Stateside assignments included Fort Polk, LA; Fort Stewart, GA; Fort Benning, GA; Dover Air Force Base, DE; and Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. Upon retirement from military service in September 1991, Mr. Slay returned to the Savannah area and began employment with Chatham County Public Works in December 1991; transferring to the Voter Registration Department in March Starting as a clerical assistant, he worked with the Voter Registration Department until 2013 retiring as Assistant Director. Mr. Slay enjoys staying involved with community activities, fishing/hunting, his Ford F150 Harley Davidson Edition and teaching Sunday School. He was appointed as a member of the Chatham County Board of Registrars in November With his vast experience in management and administration, Mr. Slay will be an invaluable asset to the Board of Registrars. He looks forward to working with the current board members to enhance the already exemplary service provided to the citizens of Chatham County by maintaining the highest level of integrity in the voter registration and absentee voting process.

5 Voter Registration Forum Page 5 Voter Registration s Holiday Party Voter Registration temporary and permanent staff came together to donate toys to two needy families as a part of the Angel Tree program. The toys were distributed at the Voter Registration Christmas Party on December 14th, 2016.
