1 SG2255: Sociology of punishment View Online This unit examines ideas about the aims, objectives, justifications, methods and effectiveness of punishment, and its various alternatives. It articulates and explores theoretical perspectives on the evolution of Western penal systems, and engages with contemporary and historical debates about the nature and role of punishment in modern and late modern societies.
