4 Cheerleading Cheese & Wine Historia Normannis Kabaddi Lung Research Madinah Manchester Art Group Oxbridge Biotechnology Roundtable Swing Dance Tedx Thai Boxing United Arab Innovative Tabz asked for an update on societies who had provided late submissions and it was agreed that Liam would check on their progress before the next meeting. 5. Future First support: Back to school week The possible ways in which Future First could be supported were discussed, as well as the merits and demerits of supporting such an organisation. It was noted that there were particular obligations surrounding Welcome Week and how the type of support may have financial implications for the Union. In addition the Interim Union Director and Membership Services Director noted that any support of Future First must be in line with the charitable objectives of the Union. It was noted that the University of Manchester had already endorsed Future First. It was agreed: That the union would be happy to work with Future First That the organisation would be encouraged to search their member base and determine whether any University of Manchester students would be interested in starting a society That if a society was formed this would receive the same support as other societies Future First would be allowed access to space in the foyer at some point in advance of their Back to School Week as long as this incurred no cost to the Union The Union would endorse Future First for their promotional purposes 6. TUC Organised Save Our NHS Demo on the 29 th September It was noted that we have policy to support the Save Our NHS campaign and policy to campaign against cuts, subject to compliance with Charity Law. It was proposed that the Students Union support this event to highlight the effects of NHS cuts on students. Some members of the Exec Team expressed concerns over the risk of groups trying to change the nature of the Demo, but were reassured that it was a legally organised non-party political demo organised by the TUC. It was agreed that: The Students Union would in principle support student participation, but the exact role would be discussed at a later date Clifford would act as a lead to draw up a proposal of The Students Union s activity Clifford would discuss the Demo with societies, MMUnion and University of Salford Students Union

5 7. Draft of the Living Wage Position Grace explained that she had been sourcing the relevant information for a position on the Living Wage before leaving Manchester for training. The Draft of the position had been delayed by training commitments and would be provided at a future exec meeting. 8. Update from the Women s Campaign Tabz discussed the plans for the Women s campaign to create some introductory publicity to be used at the start of the year to inform students about the Campaign and encourage students to get involved. It was agreed that Tabz would formally submit a campaign s bid for the amount needed. 9. AOB i) Unicef on Campus Award Photos Kazi informed the Exec that he had recently been contacted by Unicef on Campus about obtaining photos taken at the 2013 Student Union Awards and asked if this would be possible. The Membership Services Director will check the ownership of the photographs before they are made available. ii) iii) iv) Work on the Exec Team s Priority Campaign Rosie asked for an update on the Priority Campaign. It was agreed that the breakout groups would continue to meet regularly and work towards the priority campaign. Manchester-Israel Research Partnership Clifford, Kazi and Omar updated the Exec on a meeting with a student concerned about research partnerships with the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology. It was noted that the student was not currently asking for support from the Students Union, but that a member of the Exec Team would observe the proposed Academic Research Meet Up. It was agreed that if the student wanted support from the Union they would have to formally submit an Idea or Campaign bid. Accommodation issues for International Students Liam raised an issue he had been made aware of regarding the availability of accommodation for international students during orientation week. It was agreed that the Exec team would find out if this was the case or if the University had existing contingencies for these circumstances. 10.
