Kursusrækkefølge Formål It is recommended that students have completed subject module course 1 and/or 3. The course is part of the overall subject module in International Studies. According to 1 Purpose the module in International Studies aims to: Enable the student to independently utilise the central theories and methods of International Studies in an interdisciplinary manner. Equip the student with a thorough understanding of the political scientific, politico-economic and sociological aspects of international development, co-operation, control and conflict. Develop the student s skills associated with the project-based working form, including the ability to co-operate and manage projects, handle complex issues, collect and process relevant information, and draw up precise conclusions and analyses. Furthermore, the purpose of the subject module International Studies is to provide the student with the qualifications required to commence a master's programme in Global Studies, EU-Studies, International Development Studies or related master's programmes. (2). The subject module is included in the Social Science 1-subject bachelor with International Studies offered at Roskilde University. The subject module corresponds to 70 ECTS points. Undervisningsform Bedømmelseskriterier The focus is on the EU as an international actor, the development of the EU s military capabilities, common foreign and security policy, community enlargements, the neighbourhood policy, the external dimensions of internal policies, and the EU and global trade relations. Lectures with student participation & discussion (reading required) The purpose of the course/project/seminar is for students to acquire: Knowledge: Knowledge of the development of the EU as an international actor. Knowledge of theoretical approaches to the study of the EU as an international actor. Skills: Skills in analysing issues relating to the EU as an international actor. Competencies:
2 Competency to conduct analyses of issues relevant to the EU's external relations and the way in which the EU responds to other international actors and institutions. Eksamensform Form of examination: Individual oral examination with synopsis. Oral examination without preparation time. The examination duration is 20 minutes, including assessment. The use of notes and course materials is permitted. The examinee prepares a synopsis of max. 2,400 characters in all, corresponding to one standard page. If the synopsis exceeds this specification of the number of characters it will be refused assessment, which means that the student cannot participate in the examination, and one examination attempt will be deemed to have been used up. The synopsis outlines how key theories from the course can be applied in relation to a contemporary event, process and/or question in the international sphere. The examination is based on the synopsis, and tests the entire syllabus. The synopsis itself is not included in the assessment. Assessment: Seven-point scale. Moderation: External Reeksamensform Re-examination take the form of an individual oral examination, cf. the form of the ordinary examination. A new synopsis is not, however, required.
