1 Young People as Active EU Citizens? Challenges and Visions on a Renewed Project for Europe First CATCH-EyoU Conference 2-4 March 2017 Athens, Greece PROGRAMME Funded by the EU's Horizon 2020 Research and innovation programme (G.A. No ) Under the patronage of the European Parliament

2 A major challenge for the EU is currently bridging the gap between young Europeans and EU Institutions, by improving dialogue in order to enhance young people s voice in EU Institutions and their active engagement in EU issues. CATCH-EyoU is a research and innovation action funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (G.A. No ). Through the joint contribution of different disciplines (e.g., psychology, education, political science, sociology, media and communications) the first open conference of CATCH-EyoU aims both to present the first findings of the project as well as to attract other contributions addressing the multifaceted factors that influence the different forms of youth active engagement in European politics at various governance levels, thus offering policy makers, professionals and young people in various organizations new instruments and conceptual lenses to better understand the factors that decide whether, how and by whom EU can be brought closer to its citizens.
