1 Human Development in the Global South
2 The contents of this volume are largely based on the papers presented in an International Symposium on Human Development in Global South: Emerging Perspectives in the Era of Post-Millennium Development Goals held in New Delhi during April The Symposium was organised by the Institute for Human Development (IHD), New Delhi, and Wada Na Todo Abhiyan (WNTA), in collaboration with the UN-ESCAP SSWA, New Delhi. In the era of globalisation, India s strengths are its democracy, vigilant civil society, a growing economy and investment in development through policies, programmes and innovation. Considering the increased focus on South-South Cooperation development dialogue and India s experience in addressing development challenges and assisting development in various regions of the world, the Government of UK's Department for International Development (DFID) is implementing a new model of cooperation support in India through the Knowledge Partnership Programme (KPP). KPP is funded by DFID and managed by a Consortium led by IPE Global Private Limited under its Knowledge Initiative which aims at promoting knowledge sharing in the areas of Food Security, Resource Scarcity and Climate Change; Health and Disease Control; Trade and Investment; and Women and Girls. This publication has been funded by Government of UK's Department for International Development under the Knowledge Partnership Programme (KPP), implemented by IPE Global Pvt. Ltd. However, the views expressed are of individual authors and do not necessarily reflect the UK Government s official policies. WADA NA TODO ABHIYAN
