RESEARCH INVOLVEMENT/PROJECTS The Centre for International and Comparative Labour and Social Security Law conducts in-depth research in the areas of labour and social security law, both from a comparative and multidisciplinary perspective, with regard to issues of practical application to the South African

The Centre is also involved in several labour and social security law training courses and in policy-making initiatives and publications The Centre has been involved in various research and other initiatives and co-operative efforts of national and international concern 1. Norwegian-South African project ( ) A Member of the Norwegian - South African Research Project. This project is carrying out research aimed at developing a normative framework for reform of social security institutions. Co-ordinator of workshop held during November 2006 and a member of the research team. 2. CROP-CICLASS workshop: Law as a tool in addressing poverty: Social perspectives, with particular reference to sub-saharan Africa. Co-ordinator for the CROP/CICLASS workshop, held Johannesburg, January Max Planck Institute for Foreign and Comparative Social Law CICLASS research project: Access to social security for non-citizens and informal sector workers. Co-ordinator for the MPI/CICLASS workshop, held at Johannesburg, January Report to the Tanzanian Labour Law Reform Task Team (May 2005) Assisted with background research for the above report. 5. Drafting of Tanzanian Social Security Legislation 2005 (June 2005) Attended a legal drafting team workshop Developing of a Social Security Bill of the Republic of Tanzania 2005, June 2005 in Dar-es Salaam, Tanzania. Part of the team to draft a Social Security Bill of 2005 for the Republic of Tanzania. 6. Micro-Health Insurance for South Africa Assisted with research and drafting of legal framework for Micro-health legislation for South Africa. 7. Legal opinion for the National Department of Social Development Part of team to draft legal opinion for the above department in respect of temporary disability grants.
