Responsible for developing and implementing plans, strategies and initiatives specifically designed to raise Philadelphia s image as a multicultural destination leading to hotel room nights and economic impact for the region. Since 1987 PHLDiversity, Multicultural Affairs Congress has been a division of the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau (PHLCVB)working to increase Philadelphia's share of the multicultural meeting and tourism markets. 1

3 For over 25 years the term multicultural had identified the Multicultural Affairs Congress. In 2013 we commissioned research to define broader diverse target markets opportunities as a result the division is now branded PHLDiversity. PHLDiversity understands, to be a leader not only in our industry but also across all businesses, we must go beyond simply accepting "equal opportunity ; we must value and embrace diversity as a strategic competitive advantage. Diversity is a business imperative that will help achieve business results. Who We Are GPHA Member hotels employ over 14,000 people Our employees represent many diverse cultures and backgrounds Our industry offers opportunity Philadelphia hotels generate over $150 million annually in tax state and local taxes What We Do GPHA serves as the principal advocate and voice of the hotel industry in the Philadelphia region furthering its interest through civic representation, education efforts, community partnerships and increased marketing presence. Aids the interest of 87 hotels throughout the Philadelphia 5 Country region including all center city hotels 1

11 Demographics of the DNC According to a 2012 Gallup Poll, the Democratic Party is the most ethnically diverse party as 4 in 10 Democrats are something other than non-hispanic white. Diversity for the Convention Diversity and inclusion are important values to the Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee of the Democratic National Convention (PHL DNC 2016). The PHL DNC 2016 is committed to diversity in the vendors and contractors we use, and we encourage diverse business owners including those owned by minorities, women, veterans, and members of the LGBT and disabled communities to register for contract consideration. 2
