1 LONG TERM VISAS Long Term visas allow access to Spain to foreign nationals planning to stay more than 180 days. There are several kinds of long term visas. Please, find below the documents required for the most popular long term visas. If your required type of visa is not included in this list, please send an to the Embassy at and you will receive the relevant information. VISA FOR STUDY PURPOSES Applicants must have PERMANENT RESIDENCE STATUS IN IRELAND REQUIREMENTS Please provide original documents plus one photocopy of each. Thank you. 1. Application form duly completed and signed 2. 1 recent passport size photograph 3. Passport with a minimum validity of the period of the visa applied for 4. Full blank page on the passport to affix the visa 5. Certificate of registration in an official or recognized school. If applicable, this certificate would have the code number assigned to it by the Registro Nacional de universidades, centros y enseñanzas o by the Registro Estatal de centros docentes no universitarios both Register Offices are part of the Department of Education and Science. This certificate should specify the type of studies, syllabus and the academic qualifications that can be obtained, if any. 6. Proof of scholarship or grant if applicable 7. Proof of previous studies, if any 8. Accommodation details for Spain for the duration of the proposed studies.

2 9. Proof of sufficient funds (Up to date Bank Statement) to cover the stay in Spain and to return to the country of origin if needed. 10. Travel insurance (including medical expenses and repatriation) for the duration of the stay in Spain 11. Minors (under 18) can only apply for a visa themselves, if they are at least 16 years old. For younger applicants, at least one parent must be present when the visa application is made. Both parents must sign the application form. Birth certificate (also stating the names of parents) and written consent of legal guardian with certified signatures are also required euros fee. This fee is not refundable a) For stays in excess of 180 days the following additional documents are required: 13. A certificate of no criminal records issued by the authorities of the country or countries where the applicant(s) has resided for the last 5 years. This document should have the Apostille. 14. A health certificate issued by a doctor stating that the applicant does not suffer from any disease with serious public health impact according to the International Health Regulations 2005 (Please refer to b) For stays in excess of 180 days the applicant must apply for a student card within a month of arrival in Spain The applicant may be requested to attend for interview and may also be requested to produce further documentation. Please apply at least TWO MONTHS before travelling, as visa applications may take this time to process.

3 RESIDENCE VISA FOR NON PROFITABLE ACTIVITIES An entry visa into Spain is required for foreign non EU nationals intending to live in Spain without performing any profitable activity. REQUIREMENTS: 1. Application form duly completed and signed recent passport size photograph. 3. Passport with a minimum validity of 120 days. 4. Two full blank pages on the passport to affix the visa. 5. A certificate of no criminal record issued by the authorities of the country or countries where the applicant(s) has resided for the last 5 years. In some cases legalization and translation of the document may be required. 6. A health certificate issued by a doctor stating that the applicant does not suffer from any disease with serious public health impact according to the International Health Regulations 2005 (Please refer to 7. Proof of sufficient funds, and/ or proof of an annual income 8. Availability of private or residential accommodation. 9. Proof of fully comprehensive international medical insurance for the applicant and the dependants, if any. 10. The applicant may be requested to attend for interview and may also be requested to produce further documentation. 11. Applications must be made IN PERSON at the Embassy. 12. The application should be lodged at the Embassy at least 3 months before the proposed journey is undertaken.

4 * Entry into Spain should take place within the days shown on the visa and the applicant must register at the nearest Police Station within 15 days of arrival so as to start the procedure to obtain a residence permit. The fee is 60 Euros. The residence visa will be issued free of charge to the spouse and dependants of E.U. nationals under the age of 18 (Proof of relationship is required). RESIDENCE VISA FOR THE PURPOSE OF EMPLOYMENT A residence visa and a work permit are required when planning to work in Spain. The visa must be applied for in person. Only applicants with permanent residency in the Republic of Ireland may apply at this Embassy. Applications must be made before moving to Spain (residence and work permits cannot be obtained with a tourist visa once in Spain). The prospective employer must have applied for the work permit at the Spanish Ministry of Labour before the applicant can apply for a residence visa at this Embassy. REQUIREMENTS: 1. 1 Application form duly completed and signed. 2. One recent passport size photograph. 3. Passport with a minimum validity of 120 days Full blank pages on the passport to affix the visa. 5. Photocopies of the whole passport, minus the blank pages 6. A copy of the resolución de permiso de trabajo issued to the prospective employer by the Ministerio de Trabajo y Asuntos Sociales.

5 7. A certificate of no criminal record issued by the authorities of the country or countries where the applicant(s) has been residing for the last 5 years. These documents have to be officially translated into Spanish. These documents should have the Apostille 8. A health certificate issued by a doctor stating that the applicant does not suffer from any contagious or infectious diseases, mental disorders or drug addiction according to the International Health Regulations 2005 (Please refer to This certificate needs to be officially translated into Spanish. Processing time will start counting once your application has been completed WITH ALL THE SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS. The applicant may be requested to attend for interview and may also be requested to produce further documentation. The visa application will be referred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Madrid for consideration. A response on the decision may take several weeks. Please be advised that applications for certain nationalities may take longer. The residence visa, when granted is normally issued for 90 days with only 1 entry into the country. The residence visa will enable the applicant to travel through one Schengen country on transit to Spain. Entry into Spain should take place within the days shown on the visa. The Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero must be applied for in Spain within one month of entry. Please note that holders of a residence visa are still subject to immigration control at the point of entry by the authorities of any Schengen member country. The fee is 60 Euros.

6 RESIDENCE VISA FOR THE PURPOSE OF EMPLOYMENT (SELF-EMPLOYED) The visa must be applied for in person. Only applicants with permanent residency in the Republic of Ireland may apply at this Embassy. The applicant must submit the relevant official application form (Solicitud de autorización de residencia y trabajo por cuenta propia) at the consular office of their place of residence. REQUIREMENTS: 1. Application form EX 07 duly completed and signed 2. One recent passport size photograph 3. Passport with a minimum validity of four months 4. Two full blank pages on the passport to affix the visa 5. A certificate of no criminal records issued by the authorities of the country or countries where the applicant has been residing for the last 5 years with the Apostille and officially translated into Spanish 6. A health certificate issued by a doctor stating that the applicant does not suffer from any disease with serious public health impact according to the International Health Regulations 2005 (Please refer to 7. Proof of having the necessary qualifications required for the practice of the profession (Certificate recognition and professional association membership if applicable) 8. Proof of having sufficient funds or support of financial institutions to carry out the project 9. An outline of the nature of the business, stating the initial investment, its profitability and if it involves the creation of new jobs. 10. Documentation that supports that all relevant permits and licences required to start the new activity or to develop the professional activity in Spain has been obtained.

7 Once the Embassy receives a positive answer from the Department of Foreign Affairs in Spain the applicant will be notified that the residency and self-employment authorisation has been successful. Within a month of the date of the authorisation notification, the applicant must submit a visa application and pay the visa fee. Once the visa is issued the applicant must enter Spain within the validity of the visa, which will not exceed 3 months. The applicant will be able to start the business activity and register for Social Security purposes from the date of legal entry into Spain. Within a month of entering Spain, the applicant must apply for the tarjeta de identidad de extranjero (i.d. card for non Spanish nationals) Please note that holders of a residence visa are still subject to immigration controls at the point of entry by the authorities of any Schengen member country.
