3 Amount requested (EUR) Legal Representative Full name Marcos Sacristán Represa Official address Plaza de Santa Cruz 8, Valladolid (e.g. Rector) Tel/fax Project contact Full name Mar Fernández Sáinz person Postal address Servicio de Relaciones Internacionales, Casa del Estudiante, e.g. project Real de Burgos s/n, Valladolid co-ordinator Tel/fax Project objective: The objective of the MUNDUS LINDO Project is the promotion of Higher Education Cooperation between the EU and the Latin American countries involved in the project: Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Ecuador, Paraguay and Peru, and in coherence with the EU general objective of improvement of the bilateral cooperation in the field of Education. The most important feature of MUNDUS LINDO is its social commitment. The project focuses on assuring the participation of disadvantaged sectors and vulnerable students. The specific objectives of MUNDUS LINDO are: -To raise LA university quality in terms of teaching and learning capacities and Research execellence. -To promote the international cooperation capacity between the EU universities and the HE institutions of the LA countries involved in the project by enhancing the creation or improvement of International Relation Offices and Support Units for research. -To raise awareness of the European HE systems in Latin America. -To design and implement procedures for academic recognition, for the development of double degrees, PhD cotuteles and sandwich doctorates, which will be used in the project and after the life of the project in the frame of other international mobility programmes. -To establish permanent and sustainable relationships among partners and associate members for the development of double degrees, PhD cotuteles, sandwich doctorates and joint research projects within the project and after the life of the project. Brief description: The consortium is formed by 7 EU universities, two institutions from Bolivia, two from Peru, one from Paraguay, one from Ecuador, one form Cuba, three from Chile and three from Brazil. The project counts on the UFRO as joint-coordinator. All partners have been carefully selected: European Universities have a large expertise in cooperation with LA and in participating in EM projects, they are all public and have proved academic excellence in the areas of the project and have a declared social commitment. Regarding LA institutions, all except one, are public, they are located in less developed regions, they all have strong social commitment and programmes to reach the less economically and less favoured communities. They receive a high percentage of indigenous and students from low income families. The consortium is capable to offer a wide range of thematic areas, which match the needs of the LA partner universities. Besides 31 associate members have strategically been selected: Rectors Conferences, International Relation networks at national level, HE institutions in LA, ONGs, public entities and University associations. They will play a specific role especially in attracting target groups 2 and 3 candidates from poor areas and in disadvantaged conditions and also in disseminating the project and its results. A total of 145 grants for LA nationals will be awarded to undergraduates, master, doctoral and postdoctoral scholars as well as academic and administrative staff. It is expected that half of the doctoral
4 students will do a PhD thesis cotutelated. A full strategy for implementation of these activities has been designed such as project webpage, online applicacion, clear, transparent and fair procedures for selection, Management, Quality and Selection Committees as well as measures to reach gender balance, social equity and to prevent brain-drain. The UFRO as joint coordinator will offer full support to the coordinator and to the LA less experienced institutions.
