7 Feedback process Each participant will have 20 minutes to present the essence of his/her research paper (research questions, methodology, preliminary results). Your colleagues have all had an opportunity to read your paper prior to the academy. You will receive feedback from two peers and the faculty on relevant issues concerning the contents and methods of your research, followed by open discussion. Presentation of your research paper Feedback from two PhD students /Post Docs (max. 5 min each) Feedback from the three faculty members (max. 5 min each) Open group discussion Duration 20 min 10 min 15 min 15 min Please review the programme and participants list to find the research papers you are invited to comment on. Feedback content We encourage each participant to give structured feedback and constructive comments on the presented papers. You might consider some of the following questions: Does the paper/presentation include clear research questions? What methodologies, literature streams etc. are employed to answer the research question(s)? Is the research well defined and the chosen methodology appropriate? What is the potential target audience? Please also consider the academic and professional background of the presenter. As a presenter you may state in the beginning of your presentation the motivation for the paper and elaborate shortly on the kind of feedback you expect from both peers and faculty. Opportunity for bilateral talks and feedback by the faculty You will share a full week with the academy faculty and participants. We encourage you to take this opportunity to engage in dialogue and seek feedback from the faculty and peers on your research, academic career opportunities and potential collaborations. 9 Faculty Katrina Burgess Katrina Burgess is Associate Professor of International Political Economy at the Fletcher School at Tufts University. She has also taught at Syracuse University, Brown University, the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), and the Autonomous Technological Institute of Mexico (ITAM). Along with numerous book chapters and articles on labor politics, market reform, migrant remittances, and diaspora politics, she is author of Parties and Unions in the New Global Economy and co-editor with Abraham F. Lowenthal of The California-Mexico Connection. She holds an MA in international relations from the University of Southern California (USC) and a PhD in politics at Princeton University. She also served as Assistant Director of the U.S.-Mexico Project at the Overseas Development Council in Washington, DC and Associate Director of the California-Mexico Project at USC in Los Angeles. Her current project addresses the impact of migration on politics in new democracies in the developing world, with particular attention to the role of remittances and migrant organizations on political participation and accountability in migrant-sending communities. Deepti Goel Deepti Goel is Assistant Professor of Economics at the Delhi School of Economics and also a Research Fellow at IZA-Institute for the Study of Labor. Her fields of interest are Applied Econometrics and Labor Economics. Before joining the Delhi School, she was Assistant Professor at the Institute for Financial Management and Research, Chennai. She completed her PhD in Economics from Boston University. In her thesis she examines whether and how strong social ties affect immigrants in the labor market. She holds an M.A. also from the Delhi School of Economics. Her current research spans a broad set of empirical projects. These include a study of Delhi Metro on air pollution, effect of loan waiver for farmers on their consumption expenditure, impact of a conditional cash transfer scheme on mother's and child's health and counterfactual wage decomposition for India. Marcelo Olarreaga Marcelo Olarreaga is Professor of Economics at the University of Geneva and Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London. Before joining the University of Geneva he worked as an economist in the Research Department of the World Bank, as well the Economics Research Division of the World Trade Organization. He has also been an invited professor at CERDI (France), the Graduate Institute (Switzerland), INSEAD (France), Institute CLAEH (Uruguay), SciencePo-Paris (France), Universidad de la República (Uruguay) and the University of Antwerp (Belgium). He holds an MA from the University of Sussex, and a PhD in Economics from the University of Geneva.
