1 MEDITERRANEAN SUMMER UNIVERSITY in partnership with MIGRATIONS AND HUMAN RIGHTS IN EUROPE AND IN THE WORLD: Migrants integration process and urban governance REPORT OF THE SESSION ROME (Italy) September 10 to 16, 2017
2 - 1 - The «Centre International de Formation Européenne» organised the second Mediterranean summer university in Italy (Rome) from September 10 to 16, This programme was organised in collaboration with Centro italiano di formazione Europea, and Università La Sapienza, Unesco Chair. The foreign candidates were accommodated in a comfortable hotel, close to the historic center of Rome, with easy access to the common transportation in order to reach the city centre and very close to the Vatican. Because this hotel was overbooked, the lecturers had at their disposal rooms in a guest house in the same area as the students. All rooms were with air conditioned and private bathroom. All the conferences were hold in the building of Centro Italiano di Formazione Europea, in the historic area of Rome, about 20 mn walking from the hotel, and each day a common lunch was organized in one of the closer restaurant of the old town. So, the group was very close all the day and this very comfortable logistics was perfect to continue discussion even during lunch time. Nevertheless, the timing was organised so that everybody had enough time to visit Rome during the evening after the academic program. The academic program was structured around the very important issue of Migrants integration and urban governance so a lot of topics were a part or the program: the Italian protection system for refugees, unaccompanied minors in Europe, civil society organisations, health challenges for immigrant populations, integration migrants in the European Society, etc.. It was approximately 30 hours of lectures and discussions to permit to the students to be more and more involved. They were conducted in English by international experts from Italy and the rest of Europe. The group was constituted with 17 students, from Italy and from abroad representing 10 different nationalities. They immediately formed friendly cohesion, between the students together but also with the lecturers. All the participants enjoyed a rich extra programme which helped them to savour the culture of this very historic and famous city. A guided visit of the gardens of Vatican, specially organized for our group as a part of the program was very appreciated. After this visit, tickets for the Vatican Museums was distributed to all the candidates for a free time afternoon in the most famous place of Rome. All the candidates completed the program successfully and received a certificate of participation. Additionally, those students who presented some extra work after the session acquired ECTS Credits. Cife warmly thanks all the partners, University La Sapienza, for its collaboration in the academic programme, the Centro Italiano di Formazione Europea to have permit us to use its building in the historic centre of Rome, in the very heart of this famous city and all the lecturers who have accepted to take part in the academic program.

13 EVALUATION The evaluation organised at the end of the session and the examination of the forms proved a very good satisfaction of the students regarding the programme as well as the organisation. We can consider that the program has been widely praised with a level of satisfaction of 89%. The candidates have all noticed a very large satisfaction regarding : - relations with the staff, - administrative assistance offered before and during the program - cultural and tourist activities offered outside the program (even more cultural activities would have been appreciated) - conduction of the educational program (the teachers were very appreciated) A few improvement proposed by the students was to introduce more discussions and some visits, either visits of official institutions, or guided visits of the most famous places of the city. But anyway, they also considered that free time in the evening after courses was a good opportunity for each one to explore the historic city of Rome and to decide the places that they wanted to discover by their own. In conclusion, all candidates have been very satisfied with the program and we can confirm that the program has achieved great success for both students and teachers. CONCLUSION CIFE warmly thanks all the teachers and collaborators of the University La Sapienza and Centro Italiano di formazione Europea for their involvement, their confidence and their friendship.
