3 Cambodian PM Attends the Celebration of 41st FALINTIL Day in Timor-Leste AKP Phnom Penh, August 20, 2016 Cambodia s Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen and his Timor-Leste counterpart H.E. Dr. Rui Maria dé Araújo reaffirmed the friendship and cooperation between the two countries on numerous sectors. According to Samdech Techo Hun Sen s official Facebook page, both leaders agreed to strengthen the cooperation in the fields of agriculture, trade, mines and energy, especially oil. H.E. Dr. Rui Maria dé Araújo thanked Cambodia for her support to Timor-Leste s membership in ASEAN and WTO, while Samdech Techo Hun Sen announced to provide 10 scholarships for Timor-Leste students and invited his counterpart to attend the upcoming World Economic Forum on ASEAN as well as to pay an official visit to Cambodia next year. PM Continues to 16th Province of His Visit Campaign AKP Phnom Penh, August 25, 2016 Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen continued his trip to Preah Vihear, the 16th province of his visit campaign announced last month. Thanks to the peace we obtained through the Win Win policy, the people, including me, can travel even at night without fear, which is very different from the time when we were in war, he wrote on his official Facebook page. During his previous visits, Samdech Techo Hun Sen has found and settled many problems, including the issuance of a directive on market management standard. Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his delight to see the people s real lifestyle along the way. Since the launch of his campaign, the premier has already visited Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Stung Treng, Kratie, Kampot, Kep, Preah Sihanouk, Kampong Speu, Kampong Chhnang, Pursat, Takeo, Thbong Khmum and Kampong Cham. 4 Cambodian Foreign Minister To Attend the 10th Meeting of Cambodia-Thailand JC in Thailand AKP Phnom Penh, August 23, 2016 Cambodia s Senior Minister H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, will lead a delegation to attend the 10th Meeting of the Joint Commission (JC) for Bilateral Cooperation between Cambodia and Thailand this week, at the invitation of his Thai counterpart H.E. Don Pramudwinai. According to a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation made public this morning, the forthcoming meeting will take place on Aug , 2016 in Thailand. H.E. Prak Sokhonn and H.E. Don Pramudwinai will co-chair the meeting, during which both sides will discuss a wide range of issues of mutual interest with a view to enhance and expedite the on-going bilateral cooperation as agreed by the leaders of the two countries during the official visit to Thailand by Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and the outcomes of the 2nd Cambodia-Thailand Joint Cabinet Retreat on Dec , 2015 in Thailand, it pointed out. Cambodian Foreign Minister Meets British Ambassador AKP Phnom Penh, August 25, 2016 Cambodian Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation H.E. Prak Sokhonn met with British Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. William (Bill) Jesse Loonghurst in Phnom Penh on Aug. 23. On the occasion, H.E. Prak Sokhonn highly valued the good relations, friendship and cooperation in all sectors between the two countries, and thanked the British diplomat for his contribution to strengthening the diplomatic relations between the two countries. H.E. Senior Minister recalled UK s assistance to Cambodia in all domains including mine and UXO clearance activities, and asked the British government to continue its support to this field and to provide assistance to the newly-established ASEAN Regional Mine Action Centre in Cambodia. H.E. Prak Sokhonn also informed the British diplomat of the National Centre for Peacekeeping Forces, Mines and ERW Clearance (NPMEC) s successful efforts in mine and UXO clearance, and of the plan for the consultative meeting between the two countries deputy ministers of foreign affairs in order to discuss the strengthening of cooperation between the two ministries and nations For his part, H.E. William (Bill) Jesse Loonghurst briefed H.E. Prak Sokhonn of his country s situation following the Brexit, structure reforms and British cabinet reshuffle. The British ambassador voiced support to the minister s initiative to hold the consultative meeting between the two countries foreign ministries, and pledged to encourage the British government to continue assistance to Cambodia in mine clearance operation. Cambodia-Vietnam Joint Border Committee Holds Close-Door Meeting AKP Phnom Penh, August 29, 2016 A close-door meeting between Cambodia and Vietnam Joint Border Committee took place at the Office of the Council of Ministers, Phnom Penh this morning. The Cambodian side was led by H.E. Var Kimhong, Chairman of Cambodia s Joint Border Committee, while the Vietnamese side was headed by H.E. Le Hoai Trung, Deputy Foreign Minister and Head of Vietnam- Cambodia Joint Committee for Border Demarcation and Border Market Planting, with the participation of representatives from many relevant institutions. The examination of draft letter jointly signed by the Cambodian and Vietnamese premiers seeking technical and mapping assistance from France, of the requests made by Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen to the Vietnamese side, and of the problems at the common border such as pond digging, road and barrack construction inside Cambodia s territory were the key items on the agenda. 6 IMF: Cambodia s Economic Growth Projected to Remain Robust around 7% for AKP Phnom Penh, August 22, 2016 During the first seven months of this year, Cambodia s construction sector attracted a total investment capital of US$7,108 million, up some 719 percent from US$899 million in the same period of 2015, according to local media report. From January to July 2016, a total of 1,500 projects on 11 million square meters of land area have been approved by the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction. For the same period last year, the sector received only 1,083 investment projects on an area of 2.7 million square meters.\ Currently, the construction sector is a major pillar of Cambodia s economic growth. *****. Cambodian Outbound Tourists Up 26 percent in First Semester AKP Phnom Penh, August 16, 2016 more Cambodian tourists visit abroad, which makes Cambodia an important tourism market for neighboring countries. The number of Cambodian outbound travellers increased to almost 700,000 in the first half of this year, up 26 percent compared to the same period last year, according to a report of the Ministry of Tourism. Between the January-June 2016 period, 699,654 Cambodian tourists travelled overseas, up from 533,014 a year earlier, it pointed out. Mr. Kong Sophearak, Director of Tourism Ministry s Statistics and Information Department, said more and Mr. Ho Vandy, Secretary General of the National Tourism Federation of Cambodia, said that the increasing trend of Cambodian outbound visitors reflect the improvement of the cost of living of Cambodian people. Most Cambodian visitors prefer going to China, ASEAN countries, mainly Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. By Chea Vannak P A G E 6

7 Cambodia, Japan Discuss Cooperation Promotion in UN Peacekeeping Operations AKP Phnom Penh, August 15, 2016 A Japanese delegation led by its Vice Minister of Defense for International Affairs H.E. Ro Manabe paid last week a two-day visit to Cambodia, to strengthen bilateral relations between Japan and Cambodia. The delegation was received on Aug. 11 by H.E. Gen. Sem Sovanny, Director-General of the National Centre for Peacekeeping Forces, Mine and ERW Clearance (NPMEC), who expressed the NPMEC s intention to continue strengthening and increasing cooperation between NPMEC and Japan s Ministry of Defense. H.E. Gen. Sem Sovanny mentioned about a capacity building project for Cambodian blue helmet troops and sought Japan s assistance to Cambodian human resource training for the period. In reply, H.E. Ro Manabe thanked H.E. Gen. Sem Sovanny for highly appreciating the missions of Japan s Self-Defense Forces in the peace seeking process in Cambodia in the 1990s and their participation in the UN peacekeeping operations along with other multi-national forces, including Cambodian forces.
