In year 2001, Wanamei gained the International ToDo price for being the socially most responsible tourism initiative in the world. Volunteer program for Danish university students supports Wanamei. UNDP/GEF grant of us$ 1 million to the Harakmbut people: Conservation and Sustainable Use of the Biodiversity in the (protected area) Amarakaeri Communal Reserve and surrounding Indigenous Lands. The Kandozi implemented their own and culturally appropriate fishery management plan whereby their income tripled and the fish stock doubled.
