Develop a management plan for the threatened fish stock of Rimachi Lake in the Kandozi territory, being the largest lake of the Amazon Basin (subcontracted by WWF). Results Instigation of Communal Reserves as a new management category in the Peruvian system of protected areas. Harakmbut territory gazetted as the protected Amarakaeri Communal Reserve ( hectares) under their own administration and management. Page 5 of 8

6 Harakmbut, Yine and Matsiguenga peoples launch multi-community tourism agency, Wanamei Expeditions, which finances the administration of their protected territory. In year 2001, Wanamei gained the International ToDo price for being the socially most responsible tourism initiative in the world. Volunteer program for Danish university students supports Wanamei. UNDP/GEF grant of us$ 1 million to the Harakmbut people: Conservation and Sustainable Use of the Biodiversity in the (protected area) Amarakaeri Communal Reserve and surrounding Indigenous Lands. The Kandozi implemented their own and culturally appropriate fishery management plan whereby their income tripled and the fish stock doubled. Most Significant Change negotiated with IBIS to become as a project M&E tool. Nature and adventure travels to developing countries in partnership with tribal and indigenous peoples.
