23 The Newsroom Rules the twelve commandments 1. The stories of the day are treated on every channel: This starts with planning and assignment. 2. Story-planning is key for success: Live-Ticker, original quotes, Web-TV are essential for a good story. 3. The one that brings a story has the ownership of the story. 4. What content goes on what channel is the decision of the assembly of the editors-in-chiefs.

24 The Newsroom Rules the twelve commandments 5. There is no right given to the single journalist to choose a certain channel. 6. The date of expiry on a certain story is key for decision-making, what channel it will go first. 7. For Breaking News and scoops with an expiry date there is only one way: «Online first!». 8. Scoops with a longer expiry date go in paid channels, not in free ones.

25 The Newsroom Rules the twelve commandments 9. If the assembly of the editors-in-chief disagreed, the editorial head of the newsroom is deciding. 10. Every channel remains independent. Of course all channels can decide to go together to push a story harder. 11. An editor delivering a scoop deserves a byline. If the story is published also in other channels the original channel is mentioned. 12. If an external tipster chooses one special channel for his story the newsroom has to accept this decision.

26 The LiveMonitor constant monitoring of the digital content With a self developped tool we are able to track every click and every visit on our digital plattforms. We call it the LiveMonitor.

27 And now? Is everything perfect? Absolutely not? There is no end in editorial development We are thinking constanly about the Newsroom 2.0 The changes are faster than every organisation Example: 2 Million iphones in Switzerland eg. every fourth has one One third of our traffic is coming from mobile devices Perfect ipad-app for our needs.

29 And now? Where are we heading? Hopefully in the right direction! To our knowledge and for the swiss-german market that is 1. Mobile 2. Mobile 3. Mobile So the big challenge is to monetize that mobile market and not to affect the yet functioning business models.
