Rationale Summary: Rationale 2/2: Project subdivision of to create 3 rd Edition Part 5: Description: Part 5 describes identification and naming principles Rationale: To expand on the identification and naming principles, and reflect the changes included in Edition 3 of Part 3. Rationale 2/3: Project subdivision of to create 3 rd Edition Part 6: Description: Part 6 describes registration procedures Rationale: To expand on the registration procedures and reflect the changes included in Edition 3 of Part 3. Rationale 3/1: WG3 expects 5 parts of SQL:2011 to be completed prior to the 2011 SC32 meeting. While WG3 has made great efforts to ensure the five parts of SQL:2011 are consistent and error 3
4 free, we anticipate finding new issues during future development. We therefore request a subproject split to develop a Technical Corrigendum for all five parts of SQL:2011. WG3 anticipates that additional requirements from the W3C XQuery work will require additional efforts in SQL/XML. WG3 is also currently discussing a number of new features that will require work in SQL/Framework, SQL/Foundation, SQL/PSM, and SQL/Schemata. WG3 has recently completed a first Technical Report on Regular Expression support in SQL. WG3 believes that there is substantial tutorial information on Time-Related SQL aspects that, while useful, is not appropriate for the normative standard. Rationale 4/1: A project split is proposed to enable work to commence on a fifth edition of ISO/IEC The possible scope includes: 1. Updates to existing functionality to maintain harmony with OGC and TC New geometry types, such as 3D Solids to support remaining 3D operations. 3. Completion of 3D operations which were started in the fourth edition, including support for the remaining spatial methods (e.g., 3DBuffer, 3DConvexHull) and operators (e.g., 3DWithin, 3DTouches). 4. Consideration of other spatial operator methods such as RCC. 5. Support for additional curve interpolation, such as conic and complex spline functions (polynomial, rational, Bézier, NURBS). 6. Updates to spatial reference systems, including extension for 3D and parameterized coordinate reference systems, consistent with ISO Extensions for linear reference systems, events, and segmentation, consistent with ISO Support for KML. 9. Support to GML Improve (round earth) geodetic support. Resolution 6: SC32 Project Withdrawals SC32 approves the following withdrawals from existing work: This was covered in each of the Working Group Resolutions in 1 through 4 above.
