Constitution of TaeKwonDo Club Article I Name and Affiliations Section I: The name of this organization is TaeKwonDo Club. Section II: This organization is affiliated with Auburn University s School of Kinesiology. The TaeKwonDo class at Auburn is offered through the School of Kinesiology; therefore, this club will also be associated with the School of Kinesiology. Article II Purpose Section I: The purpose of this organization is to teach Auburn University students, faculty, and staff the basics of TaeKwonDo and self-defense, as well as advance in these areas. If one was ever to be in a dangerous situation, these techniques benefit in selfdefense, and would allow someone to escape the situation. Article III Membership Section I: General Members All students who are classified as undergraduate or graduate students at Auburn University are open to membership. No prior experience is necessary. Membership is restricted to regularly enrolled Auburn University students, faculty, and staff. No university student may be denied membership on the base of race, sex, religion, national origin, color, age, disability, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, or veteran status. Section II: Voting Members Any member who attends a meeting once every two weeks is considered a voting member. Article IV Officers Section I: Officers Officers consist of president, vice president, secretary, and a public relations chair. The president s duties would consist of opening, closing, and presiding over general and officer meetings. They would also prepare meeting agendas, enforce all bylaws, and would be the official representative of the TaeKwonDo Club at SGA meetings. The vice president would have the same responsibilities as the president is his or her absence. The secretary would responsible for attendance of all meetings and, in the case of a website for this organization, would run the TaeKwonDo club website. They will also type any
attendance list, member list, or any other document necessary to the club, and would also inform the club of any decisions made at an officers meeting that would affect the rest of the club. The public relations chair would be responsible for the recruitment of new members and presenting our club to the Auburn community. Section II: Qualifications for each office For all offices, the members elected must be voting members and above the rank of an orange belt (one rank above the beginner level.) Officer positions will be presented by nominations of members, and then voted on my voting members of the club. The nomination period lasts approximately an hour for deliberation on candidates. The voting period will last no more than thirty minutes. A candidate is not required to be present at the election, but will have to confirm as soon as possible with a voting member. Section III: Duration of offices Elections will be held during a member meeting in November; however, the officer-elect will not assume their positions until the first member meeting in January. Section IV: Vacancy If an officer role is vacant, the next officer will take over their duties until emergency voting is held to fill the vacancy. Article V Advisors Section I: The TaeKwonDo Club organization will have an Auburn University faculty, administrator, or staff member serving as Advisor at all times. The Advisor will be Josh Hughes, TaeKwonDo instructor of the Physical Education class at Auburn University. Section II: General role The Advisor will have all privileges of a voting member, except for those voting on elections. The Advisor will not be allowed to hold office. The Advisor will also keep in the mind the best interests of the TaeKwonDo Club. Section III: Removal of advisor If the Advisor violates any of the roles stated above, a vote will be held on the removal of the Advisor. Article VI Meetings Section I: The president and vice president have the authority to schedule, hold, and close meetings. General meetings will be held twice a week. Officer meetings will be held once a week prior to the first general meeting of the week. Days and times of meetings will be voted upon by the officers at the beginning of each school year. For a meeting to be held, at least half of the members must be present.
Section II: Special meetings are classified as emergency voting or voting for officers. The president and vice president have the authority to call these meetings; however, they must notify the members at the general meeting prior to the emergency meeting. Article VII Amendments Section I: Amendments to the constitution will be proposed either by the officers as unanimous vote or by a petition signed by three quarters of the voting members where one of the voting members presents the petition to an officer. A meeting will be called upon for the voting of a proposed amendment. This meeting will take one of two forms. If the amendment is proposed by unanimous vote of the officers, then the final decision will be made by a three quarters of voting members. If the amendment is proposed by a petition of voting members, then the final decisions will be made by a unanimous vote of the officers. Bylaws of the TaeKwonDo Club Article I Membership Section 1: All students who are classified as undergraduate or graduate students at Auburn University are open to membership. Members do not have to have previous martial arts experience in order to gain membership. The minimum number of meetings a potential member has to attend is one. After attending one meeting, they will be considered a member. To be a voting member, they must attend one meeting every two weeks. Potential members can express interest in the organization by contacting any current member. Section II: Members are expected to attend meetings regularly; however, regularity is not closely monitored, so regularity may be judged arbitrarily yet reasonably. Members are expected to follow instructions and show respect in class. Guidelines for etiquette will be made available to all members. Members are expected to attend meetings in proper clothing for athletic activities. Section III: General Members Members have the right at any time to disengage from meetings. These reasons may not be furnished. Members will have the right to attend regular meetings. Members will have the right to use an assigned practice space during meetings as well as equipment at the discretion of the president, vice president, or advisor. They also have the read and own a copy of the constitution and bylaws. Section IV: Voting Members Members have the right at any time to disengage from meetings. These reasons may not be furnished. Members have the right to attend general and voting meetings as well as the right to petition an amendment and vote.
Section V: A member who fails to attend class for a duration considered to be substantial enough may be removed from the membership list, list, or other such membership records. However, assuming no other delinquencies, the member shall remain in good standing with the club and may return at his or her will. The member shall not lose his or her member rights. There must be just cause for member expulsion. Causes include but are not limited to: chronic failure to follow instructions in class, regularly showing disrespect and or causing disruptions in class, or a single incident by the member deemed unacceptable enough to warrant expulsion. A member may be deemed worthy of expulsion by one of two methods: two-thirds majority vote of the officers or four-fifths majority officer vote if an officer is in question. If the president is in question, the vice president will assume the position of the president until the issue has been resolved, or a petition signed by a minimum of three quarters voting members and presented to an officer by one of the voting members. There must be just cause for expulsion of a member. The member in question must be personally notified of his or her possible expulsion and be presented with a copy of this constitution by an officer prior to final voting. A meeting shall be called to pass final judgment on the member in question This meeting shall be in one of two forms: if the member was brought into question as general member, then the final decision shall be made by a two-thirds majority vote of a meeting comprising of at least three quarters of voting members; if the member was brought into question as an officer, then the final decision shall be made by a two-thirds vote of all officers or a four-fifths officer vote if an officer is in question. An expelled member may only return after a period of one calendar year. Expulsion is the removal of one s member rights, including the use of the designated activity space during scheduled meetings. Interactions between the expelled member and active members of the TaeKwonDo Club outside of practice are not officially affected and are not the responsibility of the TaeKwonDo Club. Article II Officer Duties Section I: The president s duties would consist of opening, closing, and presiding over general and officer meetings. They will also type any attendance list, member list, or any other document necessary to the club, and would also inform the club of any decisions made at an officers meeting that would affect the rest of the club. The public relations chair would be responsible for the recruitment of new members and presenting our club to the Auburn community. Article III Election of Officers
Section I: Elections will be held in November of each year; however, the officer-elects will not assume their positions until January. Section II: Officers will be nominated by a voting member during a voting meeting in November. The president will keep a list of nominations. Section III: At the end of the nomination period, each member nominated must give a short speech addressing why they believe they would be fit for an officer position. Section IV: The officers must be elected by three quarters of the voting members during a voting or emergency voting meeting. Section V: If an officer role is vacant, the next officer will take over their duties until emergency voting is held to fill the vacancy. Article IV Advisor Section I: The Advisor will be Josh Hughes, TaeKwonDo instructor of the Physical Education class at Auburn University. Mr. Hughes has been chosen by the TaeKwonDo Club to be the Advisor because of his experience and leadership shown in the TaeKwonDo class at Auburn University. The Advisor will serve a term of two years and then be under review by the officers of the TaeKwonDo Club to decide whether or not they serve another term. Article V Committees Section I: A public relations committee will be established to assist the public relations officer on organizing and deciding on any public events. Section II: A application will be presented by the public relations officer. Four members will be selected by the public relations officer based off their applications. The committee will serve until officer elections in November and assume their roles in January. Article VI Parliamentary Authority Section I: This organization shall be governed by Robert s Rules of Order except when these rules are inconsistent with the constitution or bylaws of the TaeKwonDo Club. If these rules are inconsistent, the constitution and bylaws will take authority. Article VII Amendment of Bylaws
Section I: Amendments to the bylaws will be proposed either by the officers as unanimous vote or by a petition signed by three quarters of the voting members where one of the voting members presents the petition to an officer.
