1 Teacher s Guide Create a polling place Materials Alphabetical list of students who are voting with space for them to sign next to their name. Signs (attached) 2 or more tables Area with tables, clipboards or writing surfaces for marking ballots in private. Ballots (print extra) Pens/pencils Ballot Box (box or similar container) My Vote My Voice stickers (print extra) Reporting Form (attached) Poll Worker RoleS Students, staff or community volunteers will serve the following roles: Greeter Judge stands at the door and directs voter to the roster table. Roster Judge instructs voters to find their name on the list of students and to sign next to their name. The Judge then directs the students to the ballot table. Ballot Judge hands ballots to students and answers any questions about how to vote. Ballot Box Judge stands next to the ballot box and hands students a sticker after they deposit their ballots. 1. Voting process: Set up a table for the Roster Judge with an alphabetical list of students (roster). Students will sign next to their name before receiving a ballot. If your school has a large student body, break the list into 2 or 3 groups (e.g., A M, N-Z) with corresponding table signs to facilitate voter lines (. After signing the roster, the Roster Judge directs students to the ballot table where the Ballot Judge gives them a ballot and directs them to the voting area. After completing their ballots, students deposit them in the ballot box and the Ballot Box Judge gives each a sticker. 2. When finished, student volunteers count the ballots. Separate the ballots into piles for each candidate, including a pile for all write-in ballots. Create another pile for any ballots where the student s ballot marking is not clear; these are spoiled ballots. Count each pile, and write the totals on your Reporting Form. 3. If your school has a single polling place, submit your results online. 4 Post in Voting Area Step three vote Fill in the oval to the left of the name of your choice. Fill the oval completely and do not make marks outside of the oval. Vote for only one team of president & vice-president. When finished, place your ballot in the ballot box and receive your sticker. If you make a mistake on your ballot, ask the Ballot Judge for a new one.
